After the end of Awakening, Robin actively tries his best to push Chrom away. He doesn’t know how to handle knowing what he/Grima has done, and that which could have happened. He knows that it’ll be hard for Chrom to adjust to being the Exalt, rather than just the leader of the Shepherds, and he doesn’t want to give the people of Ylisse any reason to reject Chrom or work against him. Chrom fights Robin’s decision tooth and nail and is absolutely heartbroken when he eventually has to give up, realizing that Robin needs to heal and learn to trust himself before getting into a relationship.

Chrom never paid much attention when being taught about matters of state (foreign/domestic affairs, diplomacy, socioeconomics, etc.) because he always thought that Emmeryn would be the one to rule. He always focused on the military aspect of things. In short, Chrom always thought he’d be a dux bellorum - warduke/warlord under Emmeryn. Robin, however, was taught how to be a king craft at a very young age - and excelled at his studies.  As a result, Chrom ends up leaning very heavily on Robin during his first few years of rule, until he gains the confidence to act on his own.

Because Chrom is so dependent on Robin during the first couple of years as Exalt, they end up reconnecting romantically. Robin recovers somewhat emotionally through helping the realm itself recover, and Chrom is all too happy to rekindle their relationship.

They both end up having ‘lavender marriages’ with female Shepherds, who are 100% aware of Chrom and Robin’s relationship, resulting in Lucina, Morgan + the two in-game children belonging to the women they marry. Even so, they make no secret of the fact that Robin is, in fact, the male version of a maîtresse royale - a royal mistress - and that he is very much “the power behind the throne,” ruling Ylisse alongside Chrom just as any Queen would do.

Robin’s migraines don’t go away, even after the end of Awakening. He usually pushes himself to work through them, but if Chrom clues in, he’ll make Robin go lie down for a bit.

Chrom is very, very affectionate, both verbally and physically. He has no problem acting professional when they’re in public, but in private there’s no hiding how much he loves Robin.

If someone acts suspicious, Chrom will jokingly tell Robin to keep “all six eyes” on said person LOL

After Grima is defeated, Robin slowly starts remembering snippets of his past, though he never remembers it fully - I’d like to think he at least remembers his mother’s face. The poor woman deserves that much, at least, for saving him :’(

The fact that all the Shepherds seem to ignore that Robin is dressed like a Plegian is…very hard to explain. IF the coat didn’t have the six eyes of Grima on its sleeves, it would be easier to understand, but it obviously does! The only explanation I can think of - and this is me reaching - is that Chrom, Lissa and Frederick do know that Robin is from Plegia from the very start. If that is the case, it could simply mean that they’ve been taught by Emmeryn not to judge Plegians (Since it’s canon that their father waged a pretty terrible war on Plegia, and Emmeryn has been trying to repair Ylisse’s relationship with Plegia).

I do think Plegians have their own language, and that Robin is bilingual. There’s also the possibility that Robin’s mother was from Ylisse and that’s why the in-game Robin is as pale as Chrom is, despite Validar having very dark skin. IF Robin’s mother is Plegian and his pale skin the result of some genetic malfunction/genetic throwback it’s still very likely that he’d be taught different languages along with all those battle tactics - understanding the enemy is important!

As for a backlash from their subjects; I’m certain there would be. The war between Ylisse and Plegia was pretty devastating, with a lot of losses on both sides. Not to mention that Gangrel was the one who caused Emmeryn’s death.  How great the backlash is would largely depend on what Robin chooses to do - does he take the throne, or does he leave it to someone else? Either way, Robin has a lot to prove to those who dismiss his sacrifice as propaganda - and that’s just on the Ylissan side!

I think they both very quickly realize that they both very VISUALLY appealing to each other - maybe that’s one of the reasons why Frederick is so suspicious of Robin in the beginning? Because he can tell Chrom is immediately very intrigued by their new companion, haha!

I think it takes a little while before they realize they’re in LOVE love. Rather than it being a sudden and intense feeling of love, I’m inclined to think that the feeling grows slowly and steadily into something so powerful that all the Shepherds can see it. Towns are attacked and burned, Maribelle kidnapped, Lucina appears - there’s just no time for them to actually try to figure out exactly how they feel or how to act on it. Even so, it’s obvious in their actions. Chrom trusts Robin with his life - and he lives of his sisters, and the Shepherds.

And then Emmeryn is kidnapped – and dies.

I think, when Chrom loses one of the great loves of his live he finally acts on his feelings, needing something else to fill the void she left behind. He knows that Robin is the only one who can make him feel better - and he’s right. Robin makes it bearable ;w;
