            THERE’S   ONLY   SO   MUCH   LYDIA   CAN   BOTTLE   UP   without   sadness   making   its   apparition   in   another   form.   she   knows   stiles   is   among   the   very   last   people   to   judge   her,   but   what   about   more   uncomfortable   emotions   she   shouldn’t   talk   about   or   reminiscence   of   the   heartbreaking   flashbacks   that   still   haunt   her   ?   if   the   voices   ever   used   her   lips   as   an   earthly   conduit,   she’d   be   on   a   one-way   ticket   to   eichen.   even   more   deeply   is   the   fear   of   emotional   exposure   &   abandonment,   as   irrational   as   it   probably   is.      ❛   i   know,   ❜   she   sniffs,   brushing   translucent   pearls   from   dewy   lashes   with   a   spacy   gaze   into   nothing   in   particular.     ❛   but   i   was   already   the   lunatic   who   writes   backwards   on   chalkboards   and   turns   up   wandering   the   woods   naked   &   i   really   don’t   need   to   nurture   that   kind   of   negative   attention   again.   ❜    or   ruin   everything,   or   potentially   risk   making   a   mistake   with   excessive   sentiment.   still,   she   casts   him   a   faint   but   appreciative   smile.   the   mercy   of   her   psyche   pales   in   comparison   to   stiles’   unconditional   kindness,   and   he’s   the   only   one   she   trusts   around    her   in   such   moments   of   compromise.     ❛   but   ...   that’s   sweet   of   you   to   say.   ❜
