#inside holstee

Hello! I am stoked to be in NYC but most of all that I am now a family member here at Holstee!

I've been here for almost two weeks now and I can't imagine looking back. Everyone has been so welcoming and I am super pumped to be here; they've made it feel like home. There is a ton of new awesome things happening here at Holstee and I'm honored to be a part of it all.   

I first came across the Holstee Manifesto about three years ago while still in college and little did I know that those inspiring words would lead me here. It resonated with me and it was exactly what I needed at the time. It became the push to start living for myself and constantly strive to do the things I love and pursue greater opportunities.

After college, I participated in Project M which proved to me that I was meant to use design and my talents for promoting what Holstee calls 'mindful living' and being conscious of all the decisions you make. It all made perfect sense and those two weeks involved with Project M helped shape a very interesting year. After M, I went back home inspired but couldn't find a 'job' that suited me. I needed something more fulfilling so I left my job this past December with no clear vision of what the future would hold. 

About a month later I came across Holstee once again and noticed they were looking for a Graphic Design Intern. I applied and I received and almost immediate response from Dave. He was excited about my work and wanted to bring me in as soon as possible. I had let chances come and go in the past and I knew that some opportunities really do only come once and I was going to do whatever it took to be here. And the rest, as they say, is history.

This week's post highlights Dan Smith and his spoken-word band Listener. The group has a unique indie/experimental style, a portion of which involves front man Dan reading his poems over music. A very passionate and animated individual, Dan's lyrics paint a vivid picture while still remaining quite ambiguous. I simply can't pick my favorite lines from this song, but I will leave you with the idea that "we only have what we remember."

“Conor Oberst is the genius behind “Bright Eyes." Each album shows his wide variety of influences, ranging from folk and bluegrass, all the way to techno. 

This video displays an interesting concept- the reactions of ordinary people simply listening to the song being played through headphones. Their reactions tend to be very happy, humorous and even bonding in some instances.

Our blog is now on Tumblr!

From day one, we have learned from our community and that continues to be true today. We noticed that much of our community was sharing and reposting to Tumblr, as well as being reblogged there. So to make it even easier to help our stories spread, share ideas, and generate conversation, we have decided to take the leap and join the world of Tumblr. (Bonus points: Tumblr is also based in NYC!)

We look forward to sharing everything from product launches and stories from the office, to awesome finds on the web and thoughts on living a sustainable life.
