If you are following along, you may have deduced that this week I'm posting pieces set in letterpress trays. Unlike most of the work I've shared online this year, this complex assemblage is presently available for purchase. In Retrospect, 2020 assemblage, 17” x 32” x 2”, $1350 In 2019 I began meeting with my best friend every monday night to sit together for a guided meditation followed by her delicious vegetarian home cooking and a lot of introspective processing of our relationships and lives. We each had our favorite mediation guides and often used the Insight Timer app to access them. During that time Sarah Blondin's graceful wisdom, soothing voice and gentle, poetic consciousness became a great gift that I am grateful to have connected with. On one particular evening I had just left my studio after completing this piece when I sat on the carpeted floor at the home of @thepoetrystore with closed eyes and deep, restful breath. Upon taking in Sarah’s first few contemplative words, I knew the title for the work. In Retrospect you see clearly what the journey of life is as if you are looking back through a clear glass. In Retrospect you will understand that your entire life was but choices made one after another in the name of love or preserving that love. Nothing will be wrong or broken. Just choices made either way in the name of your heart. Perched above your experience you will one day see each of your days woven together as a tapestry of missteps, hurtful choices, probing joy, heartbreak, and redemption, love and the denial of that same love. You will see it all as gathered choices and through those choices a melody will be woven both sweet and achingly bittersweet.
