Lady may have spoken another language when she was young, but living on a ship isolated from the outside world, she may have only been able to speak Japanese. (This phenomenon is not uncommon. In fact, my mother told me that I used to speak English with my British friends when I was in kindergarten. But I don't remember it at all, and I didn't have a chance to speak English in elementary school, so I completely forgot how to speak it.)
