tagged by @inklingofadream to post the first line of my last 20 fics (thank you! <3)
Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line. Then tag 10 other authors!
Okay I kept this to TMA fics only so I can cheat and post my fav opening lines for some of the works Iâm still sitting on:
1. a story for wandering things (unlost) - There are two ghosts visiting this makeshift library Jon is making, one a metaphor and the other an actuality. Itâs just his usual rotten luck that he falls in love with both.
2. the magnus archives (gerry keay romantic mystery remix) - The two of them stalk through the abandoned house like a pair of spectres.
3. all you who are weary and burdened (come to me) - [Two sets of deep, even breathing that continues throughout the whole record] ANNABELLE: [Hushed] I told you they're still asleep.
4. the man from the magnus institute, london - Make your statement, the Archivist tells us, face your fear. And we do, listeners, we make our statements and face our fears, because we are afraid of what he'll do to us otherwise. Welcome to Night Vale.
5. the magnus archives (tim stoker romcom remix) - [Laptop keys clicking in the background] TIM STOKER: Mic testâŚtest, test micâŚmiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiic teeeeeeeeeeeeeeâ
6. family matters - He turns the cassette on and The Clash cockily blares at him from the speakers.
7. if itâs the last thing i do (then itâs worth it) - âYou love tea,â Tim insists, and thereâs a crack in the veneer of his dimpled smile, a chip already falling off to reveal savagely gritted teeth. One of Martinâs left hands quickly picks the fleshy piece up before it completely turns porcelain and slots it back into the hole it made, a temporary cure to Timâs irritation.
8. who was the you (who endured the sad story) - They say the Institute is a very young building with a very old history.
9. cinnamon bone (bitter name on the wall) - Martin coos at his wrist, the ever widening slit trembling at his bated breathes, any moment now, he thinks, any moment now, it will crack open, push at his skin and flesh to reveal a hint on who is it that he will love the most and will love him in turn, any moment now and Martin will have his assurance, not that he needed any, that there is someone out there just for him, for him to love and be loved back in turn.
10. how do we know which part of the story matters? - This is a story about family, three parts more than a whole.
11. been walking blind in the dark (never seen the sun) - âWhy do you call him The Beast?â Martin asks, eyes wide with curiosity and Tim almost pities him, this new Chosen One Elias picked out for The Beast to terrorise.
12. a friendly town - ARCHIVIST: âpologise for the tape recorderâŚDoctor, youâre certain you are feeling well enough to give a statement? Are you experiencing headaches again?
13. eye in the sky - CECIL: âLook at the skyâ, the man laughed. âLook at the sky,â he cried. âItâs looking backâ. Welcome to Night Vale.
14. the nice and accurate prophecies of agnes montague, beldam - His secret is this: he didnât do it to sow discord and reap evil into the world.
15. condolences (#0121004) - THE ARCHIVIST: Statement of Rebecca Razon regarding their life after their fatherâs death. Original statement taken 10th of April 2012. Audio by Jonathan Sims, Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, London. Statement begins.
+5 works to be or not to be published
JGM Inception AU - How many layers deep are we even in?
Queer Eye AU â [INT. THE MAGNUS INSTITUTE, LONDON] TIM STOKER, sitting in The Archivesâ Break Room. He is facing the camera, behind him a wall covered by archival storage boxes in one half and in the other a life-size portrait of The Institute's founder, JIMMY MAGMA.
Another WTNV/TMA Crossover fic â THE VOICE ON THE RADIO: This is a story about him, the voice on the radio says. And he is concerned because he isnât supposed to be part of any story ever again. Welcome to Night Vale.
Something about Tim (ft. Jon and Sasha) - Danny used to joke, âyour heart has always been big enough for the two of us, Tim.â
Panoptes AKA Something Greek and Tragic(TM) - There are six feet between the now closed door Martin went through and the proper entrance to the labyrinth.
Looking over these again, I do like using ghosts and monsters, donât I? adasdfg I feel like opening lines for âa story for wandering things (unlost)â and âthe nice and accurate prophecies of agnes montague, beldamâ are tied as my favorites so far
