My poor kitty cat :(
There's multiple people setting off fireworks within like, three blocks (about .3 miles). Including right across the street. And they've been setting them off for uhh 7 hours? It was occasional until about 3 hours (while it wasn't even fully dark) and it's been *constant* since.
THREE HOURS OF CONSTANT FIREWORKS
Why!!!
The noise level is similar to a very close by thunderstorm. I'm feeling jittery from this *my own* behalf at this level of nonsense and it's not like I have anything in particular that it's triggering.
It's also occurred to me that I don't know how bad the fireworks on NYE is here. I was out of town (visiting my human family) both years. (Actually, I was suppose to be in around 7 pm on the 31st last year. This year? But plane delays meant I got in around 1 am )
Since there didn't end up being a good time to go home this summer and my class schedule should make it not too difficult to do so, I was planning on going home during fall break (october) and then maybe waiting until spring break to go again. (Unusually, my spring break actually lines up with my brother's.) So I'll probably be home this time.
God. Hopefully this nonsense is over soon

love people referring to the dracula offseason. i can't stop picturing exchanges like "well, we're in the offseason" "the Superbowl is literally this weekend" "no, not football. dracula"
i love when the tumblr girlies get into a show middle aged american men like (MASH, columbo, breaking bad, supernatural to all our bewilderment, etc) but do it in a way that would make those dads go into shock requiring medical intervention

My bedroom, the hall behind my bedroom, our family room, and the southern half of the dining room are consumed in a low, monotonous hum. Other than my bedroom and the hall none of the Hum Zones touch each other. Foyer between hall and family room? No hum. Northern half of the dining room, between the family room and the southern half of the dining room? Nothing. The SMALL CORNER of the hallway where you are not parallel to my bedroom for literally like 18 inches? Silence!
I thought it was something against the house or in my dad's office next door, but it's also on the other end of the house. Like, in my room it's strongest as you get closer to the window/space immediately adjacent to my dad's desk, where you'd expect it to be if he's using the massage gun or something. Foyer should be closer than the family room, though! There is an entire garage between the southern half of the dining room and the hypothetical Hum Source!
The weird spatial stuff is very similar to when I first started having tinnitus, my brain did weird tricks to convince me that the Distant Radio Sounds that resulted from tinnitus+auditory processing junk+running water were louder as I neared my laptop speakers and all kinds of stuff. And I recognize that a monotonous hum is how many people describe tinnitus.
However.
This Cannot be my tinnitus. Because the tinnitus is ALREADY THERE! Like. Is this Second Tinnitus??? Am I losing my mind? Is the house going to explode?
If I never post again the hum got me.
adventures in editing: apparently the difference between "close to the chest" and "close to the vest" is popularity between British and American English?? Like, either one is technically correct in either context, but "close to the chest" is way, way, way more popular in British English, while "close to the vest" is near or slightly above it in the States.
We just. Changed our mind for no apparent reason in the 1910s and it stuck. Presumably due to our famed national love of vests.
