Synopsis
Working my way back from Bardstown Ugly Box to this the first entry of the Guilt discography, the progression was full and complete. Empty? was a bit more raw and closer to that traditional Louisville sound of the early 90s, but all the signs are here of what was sure to come from a great scene. Sure I loved Endpoint, I had a blast the 2 times I got to see them, but for me, that are thrived when Guilt and By the Grace of God were at their peak. Duncan was a master at his craft in those days, both in studio and on the stage. If anyone has a copy of my old zine, you will recall when I told Rob from BTOG in an interview that I loved their rock star approach on stage. He was miffed for sure as to him it was an insult, which I corrected him, “no, its because you owned that stage, you commanded our attention, and you performed the hell out of your music. If thats not rock star mentality, I dont know what is”. We all certainly laughed, but it was all true. I digress, Guilt moved from being a hardcore band into a very edgy post hardcore onslaught that on any given night could go the By the Grace of God route or the Quicksand route, take you pick. To this day, they were one of the most under appreciated Victory bands. This 7″ started it off, and it deserves way more credit than it gets.
Initial Records became such a formitable force sometime after this release. Andy always but out such high quality releases and layouts, and I believe this was one of the last releases where he was still trying to figure some things out. Its not bad by any means, but put up against say...the Enkindel LP or Boy Sets Fire LP, well you see the difference. Glossy cover with some kinda empty font styles on the cover (No pun intended) but still a solid effort.
