who's marcus?
Marcus was only mentioned once, while Juno was being assaulted by everybodyās thoughts after he took the Martian Pill. Itās hard to catch, but itās one hell of a thought:
Juno, where⦠if theyāve got Juno⦠the moron who splits up in a place like this, what are you talking about you letĀ him go, stupid, stupid, talking about the war you idiot,Ā heāll look you up and if he finds out about Marcus heāllĀ Juno! Where the hell are you, Juno? Steel
Iām pretty sure Marcus (and the fear of Marcus being found out about) is what prompts this exchange later on in the same episode:
STRONG:Ā Did you⦠You didnāt hear anything, did you?
JUNO:Ā What happened to your little telepathic utopia, Alessandra?Ā Didnāt think a little mind reading would bother you.
STRONG:Ā Iām not ashamed of anything Iāve done. I just like to be inĀ control of how it gets out.Ā So? You didnāt hear anything thatās going to get between us, did you?
JUNO:Ā No, I didnāt. I didnāt hear anything at all, actually. Damn thing doesnāt work.
STRONG: (UNABLE TO CONCEAL HER RELIEF) Good.
I have absolutely no clue whatās up with Marcus, but theyāre important to Alessandra somehow, and Iām eager to find out how.

Oh fuckk me upppp bruh. I have to go with Gansey and Ronan for the pure fact that I am a sucker for that kind of relationship they have built on the kind of friendship that comes with standing by somebody through the worst moments of their lives and never ever for a second giving up on them. I think we see this play out again with Adam and Ronan throughout the series but I truly adore Gansey and Ronan and their dynamic.Ā

Bodyswap Soulmate AU | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4
When Peter climbs through the window, Junoās slumped on the couch, watching the last few ounces of gin swirl around the bottom of the bottle. He kneels before Juno, gently tugging the bottle out of his hand.
Juno looks up, his bleary eyes so very sad that Peter wants to wrap his arms around him. āWhatās wrong?ā
āIā¦ā Juno swallows, pulling back at the bottle like he plans to drain the rest.
He smooths Junoās hair.āYou can tell me, love. Itās alright.ā
āIām sorry.ā Juno bites his lip. āI⦠I canāt remember your name.ā
āIs that whatās worrying you?ā He strokes Junoās hair again. āYou havenāt forgotten. Iām afraid I donāt tell anyone my name. It would take someone very special for me to tell it now.ā
Heās far too drunk to hide the twinge of disappointment on his face. Perhaps thatās deserved. After all, who in all the galaxy is more singular than my soulmate?
Besides, in the state heās in, heāll never remember past morning.
Peter leans in just enough to press his lips to Junoās forehead. āItās Peter, love. You can call me Peter.ā
Peter.
It shouldnāt make Junoās heart skip a beat, but it does. Itās just a name, after all. Just a pair of syllables. But after years of wondering, of fantasizing about a face with nothing to call him, this feels like everything.
Peterās tucking Juno into bed when a pair of arms wrap around his neck, tugging him closer.
āJuno,ā he warns gently.
āDonāt want you to leave yet,ā his detective mumbles, already half asleep. āStay a little longer.ā
Peter glances at the open window. There are still a few hours yet until dawn. It couldnāt hurt to stay a little while longer.
āAlright,ā he says softly. āJust a little while.ā
He slips out of his shoes and on top of the covers, and immediately Juno rolls closer against him.
Itās a lovely sight, Juno drifting off beside him, making little unintelligible noises as he slips into a dream.
It would be an even better sight to wake up to.
Itās easier to play drunk late at night, when Junoās too tired to be coherent even on purpose. Even easier with this new arrangement, when heās half asleep and Peterās warm and cozy beside him.
āThe first time I saw you, I think I stared at the mirror for hours. I couldnāt stop looking at you.ā
Peterās hand pauses on his hip. āIām sorry I didnāt come sooner.ā
That draws Juno back into awareness, but he keeps his voice soft. āWhy didnāt you?ā
āYou were engaged. You had a good job. A bright future. I didnāt want to ruin that for you.āĀ
He tries not to tense as all the drowsiness drains from him.
Because that canāt be right. That canāt.
āI--ā It takes a moment to force sleep back into his voice. āI think I did that just fine on my own.āĀ
Peter sighs into Junoās hair. āMy life isnāt the kind you would want to be a part of.ā
āDonāt I get some say in that? I mean, I donāt exactly have room to be picky.ā
āShh,ā Peter murmurs. āNo need to get yourself excited. Youāre...ā He pauses. Frowns. Leans in and inhales. And suddenly Junoās regretting filling the liquor bottles completely with water this past week, because thereās no booze to smell on his breath. āYouāre not really drunk, are you?ā
In a time like this, a detective only really has one of two options: he can come clean or he can double down.
āI...was drunk,ā he says carefully.
Peter sits up, stony-faced. āHow long ago, exactly?ā
Juno would much rather be having sleepy confessions wrapped up in bed, but thatās not going to happen, is it? He sits up as well, too aware of the space between them. āTwo weeks ago, maybe?ā
āTwo weeks.ā Peter takes off his glasses to pinch the bridge of his nose. āYouāve been lying about this for two weeks.ā
āRemind me, how long have you been sneaking in through my window?ā
āAnd this was the natural response? It didnāt occur to you to say something to me?ā
Okay, so maybe Junoās been wondering the same thing for a while. āWell... yeah,ā he says slowly. Weeks ago, it would have been impossible for him to get the words out, but heās had a whole lot of practice at making humiliating confessions lately. āI didnāt want you to stop coming by.ā
āOf course not.ā He still hasnāt put his glasses back on. Heās still pinching the bridge of his nose, his hand obscuring most of his face. āI was getting worried for the state of your liver, you know.ā
āItās probably not in the best shape,ā Juno admits.
āThen perhaps this is a habit we should break.ā
Juno swallows. He knew he couldnāt keep this up forever. Heās trying to find the right words to say when he hears the click of Peterās glasses being set on the bedside table.
āBesides,ā Peter says, suddenly so much closer than he was before. āNow that youāre sober, thereās something Iād much rather be doing right now.ā

an ugly idea: juno's mother found out about him being a werewolf and, in an effort to use it against him, she accidentally put ben in the way
This oneās been sitting half-finished in my drafts for a while. Itās a challenge, partly because I didnāt have a very clear image of what kind of person Junoās mother was, and partly because itās a hella dark situation compared to the surprisingly fluffy rest of the series.
Blood and child abuse ahoy, so⦠yeah.
Juno Steel, Werewolf |Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9 | Part 10
When Sasha and Mick find him, heās quiet. The blood and snot and tears have all dried; heās even stopped shaking. All he does is stare straight ahead. The only sign he can see them at all is the way that he flinches when they approach. He doesnāt answer when Mick demands to know if somebody hurt him. He doesnāt resist when Sasha searches him for injuries.
Sheās the one who figures it out first. āJunoāā
He can sense the question sheās going to ask, and he curls into himself like he can hide from the answer. She grabs him by the shoulders and forces him to face her.
āJuno, whose blood is this?ā
It takes him a long time to form the words. In the end, only one of them makes it out.
āBen.ā He looks like he might cry again, if there was anything left in him. His voice is faint and raw. āHeās dead, Sasha. I killed him.ā
Itās Mick who sits with him for the next several hours while Sasha collects herself. Itās too soon after what happened to Annie, her nerves are too raw, it hurts too much.
In the end, though, thatās why she comes back: because she still doesnāt know exactly what happened to Annie. And goddammit, she canāt go the rest of her life not knowing what happened to Ben.
Thereās no crime scene, no line of police tape to cross. Juno carried his brotherās body to the hospital long after it had gone cold, but itās too soon for the cops to have found the right placeā and thatās assuming theyād even look. After all, people die in Oldtown all the time. Some of them are kids. And when theyāre already past savingā¦
She swallows back bile.
It happened at an abandoned house not too far from Junoās place, one with heavy chains over the boarded up windows and doors. During Junoās cycle, one of the sets of chains is held together with an old-school combination lock, so she and Mick can sleep without having to worry about anyone getting in there while Junoās feral⦠at least, that was the idea. But the chains over the side door hang limp, and the lock lies in the dust beside them.
It was Benās lock, from back when he was in his retro tech phase. He would have known the combination to open it.
The irony hits her like a punch in the gut. She has to take a minute to steady herself.
She can do this. She has to do this. For Junoās sake. For Benās. For Annieās.
She takes a deep breath and pulls open the door.
This is one of the old buildings, back when they were made to last, with plaster over concrete walls. It looks like Juno found that out the hard way: the rotting carpet and imitation hardwood is ripped to shreds, and the walls are scored with clawmarks from months of frantic digging. Every flat surface is covered by several monthsā worth of thick red dust, interrupted only last night.
There are multiple sets of tracks here, but itās not hard to pick out Benās from Junoās human footsteps. His feet areā wereā too big for him, so much that he skipped right past wearing Junoās hand-me-down shoes and started having to wear their mothersā. Sasha follows the footsteps carefully.
He was running, that much is clear. The tracks turn sharply to the left, and then zag to the right, toward the basement door.
The doorknob is free from dust where it was recently grabbed.
The moment she opens the door, the smell hits her, coppery and thick enough to make her stomach turn.Ā
She runs away. Itās a secret that sheāll take to her grave, but sheās out the door and vomiting in the alley before she knows what happened. She stays there until she stops crying, until her heart stops trying to ram its way out of her ribcage, until she can actually breathe again.
And then she spits out the taste of acid and marches back into the house.
Because itās awfulā it will never stop being awfulā but she has to know. Juno has to know. And if this gives her even more nightmares⦠well, the old ones could use some company.
And so she marches down the hall and into the basement.
Itās strange. Thereās so much bloodā and so little. There should be moreā or there shouldnāt be any at all, but if the universe has to take someone like Ben out of this world, then at least it should have the decency to give him the kind of sendoff he would have gotten excited about. Instead itās just there, a single pool, cracking and curling as it dries, interrupted by a few smears and a handful of bloody paw prints.Ā
She feels queasy again, but thereās nothing left in her to throw up, and so she looks harder. Once she gets over the initial wrongness, a new kind of wrongness sets in.
Because she remembers what happened to that poor rabbit that ran into Juno in the sewer. She found traces of blood everywhereā on the walls, on the ceiling. This is too clean. Even if Ben had died in one bite, it would still be too clean.
She turns on the flashlight of her comms and looks again, and this time she spots what she missed before: the dust on the stairs looks strange, wiped away in patterns that are too unsteady to be deliberate. On the edge of one step, two thirds of the way down, thereās a small splash of blood.
And the puzzle pieces click into place.
Ben running, going through the doorā maybe he didnāt even realize it led to a flight of stairsā and then he fell. He hit hisā with all that blood, it must have been his head. Thatās where he landed. Thatās where Juno circled him once, as a wolf, and then⦠laid down next to him?
God, Juno.
The human footprints leading up the stairs are incomplete, the blood clinging to the soles already half-dried.
But that canāt be right. Because Ben was obviously running from something, and so fast that he didnāt bother to look where he was going. What, though?
She climbs the stairs again, looking more closely at the footprints. Thereās her trail, going to the basement and back and back again. Thereās Juno, with the holes in his sole where he used his shoes to climb over razor wire. Thereās Junoās paw prints. And thereās Ben, running to the stairs and doubling back beforeā
No. Wait.
The footprints are the same size, the same brand, but theyāre different. One of them has the tread mostly worn off the sole, while the other looks fairly new.
The worn shoes only go one way. The newer ones make it as far as the basement, then back up to the wall and go back the way they came.
Ben was chased.
And Sasha knows who did it.
Sasha climbs in through Junoās window, her feet bare to avoid making a sound on the cheap linoleum. Thereās no need to be so careful, though. Sarah Steel is passed out over the kitchen table, an overturned bottle of scotch in her hand, her dust-stained shoes still on her feet.
She leaves her there.
The important part is letting Juno know what really happened. Itās up to him to decide what to do with her.
sidetracking a little (a lot), but what happened to Sam's soulmate?
I kept trying to fit this into the Body Swap Soulmate AU, but good luck making Juno talk about something like that on his own, and Peterās not about to make him.
Not everybody has a soulmate in this AU. And the nature of finding out whether or not you have one is awkwardly tricky.
See, if you have one and youāre the younger partner, then you definitely find out on your twenty-first birthday. If you donāt body-swap on your twenty-first birthday, though? Well, you might not have one at all... or you could be the older partner. Sam doesnāt have one, and he assumed that Juno didnāt, either.
By the time he got involved with Juno, Sam already had several relationships go belly-up because his partner found their soulmate and suddenly decided to dump him in favor of the other person. But he was totally safe with Juno, right? That was never gonna happen with the two of them.
Any possibility of more of werewolf Juno being a good boy? I love that Peter took pictures of him, that was so sweet
Iām having too much fun playing with this particular AU.
Right now Iām torn between calling it āPeter and the Wolfā or āPeter and the Good Boyā
Part 1Ā | Part 2
āPeter...ā Juno said very slowly. It was the kind of tone that you didnāt want to hear from a lady who was that good with a gun.Ā āWhatās this?ā
Peter, though, was not one to be intimidated.Ā āIt looks like a shopping bag.ā
Snake-fast, Junoās hand darted into the bag and dragged out a synth-leather collar.Ā āWhat the hell is this, Nureyev? I swear to God, if youāre trying to be cute--ā
āReally, Juno. Do I even need to try?ā Peter turned off the tablet he was reading and set it on the table beside him.Ā āI just thought Iād take you for a little walk next week.ā
Junoās words saidĀ āPeterā. His tone said āI love you, but I may have to murder you.ā āI am not a dog. I am a werewolf. You canāt just take me outside into the city where people are, because I might kill somebody.ā
āSo far the bigger issue has been you running into traffic, actually.ā He crossed one leg over the other, entirely unperturbed by the look of growing horror on Junoās face as he continued.Ā āIām sure you must have realized by now, but the ability to use flush toilets doesnāt exactly carry over when you don a fur coat, so to speak.ā
āOh God--āĀ
āI tried to improvise with one of your belts, but you managed to slip out and made a break for it.ā
āWait, is that what happened to that belt--ā
āIf Iām going to be making a habit of this, Iād rather be properly prepared. Also, dog biscuits were on sale.āĀ
Juno flopped onto the couch with an aggravated sigh. There really was no winning this for him, and they both knew it.
āDammit, Peter. If I hurt someone...ā
Peter leaned closer to him, gently running his nails over Junoās scalp. Juno didnāt like to admit it, but it felt really, really nice.
āYou arenāt some bloodthirsty killer on your nights off,ā Peter said softly.Ā āYouāre just a dog. A particularly large dog, but no more ferocious than any other that Iāve seen. One that gets anxious when locked in a small dark room for hours on end. Or that might fight back if heās cornered by a pack of murderous gangsters.āĀ
āYou donāt know that,ā Juno muttered, but he leaned in closer against Peter.Ā āNot for sure.ā
āMaybe not,ā Peter admitted.Ā āBut Iāll put my faith in that until Iām proven wrong.ā
