The Golden Fleece

Sent by the god Hermes, the winged golden-haired ram Chrysomeles carries the royal children Phrixus and Helle over the sea on his back to save them from their evil stepmother Ino. Once they have reached their destination, a temple is erected in honor of the helpful ram. Hung on an oak tree and guarded by a dragon, its golden pelt is worshipped as a sacred relic. The Argonaut Jason, sent to steal the Golden Fleece, achieves this with the help of the sorceress Medea. But it does not bring them happiness. Those motivated solely by greed and self-interest will never know the satisfaction of altruistic kindness.

On May 16th, 2015, the Life Ball will be held for the 23rd time. Celebrated in the spirit of the ancient rite of spring, Ver Sacrum, the event will proclaim a message of new beginnings and breaking with tradition and convention.

The Life Ball 2015 marks the return of the characters and personages created and enacted by the Vienna Secessionists who, united in the struggle for change, renewal, and progress, join in an exuberant celebration of life.

During the ancient rite of spring, the Ver Sacrum, the god Mars holds a protective hand over the youths vowed to him. He leads them to the borders of their tribal lands, whence they set out to establish new settlements with values and goals of their own. But not everyone is glad to follow the call. The idea of leaving one’s familiar world is frightening. Only those brave enough to go forth, however, can win the victor’s crown.
