I’ve always thought about how the way we define innovation needs to change, and therefore originality.
but hadn’t thought about how fame can go too. How the way we do innovation -> originality -> fame is what leads us to the same scarcity. that we are not enough.
That once someone has done it, we are through. there’s no room for us to shine anymore. these are not unfounded insecurities and I think it’s helpful for us to remember when we give each other quips like “I don’t wanna wear your crown, there’s enough to go around” that it doesn’t come from nowhere.
We have tokenized and sloganized every coming, every expansion. Basic things that are not meant to be patented and commodified like communityTM and authenticityTM and diasporaTM.
It is not inevitable. it is not a must. we need not do things this way. we need not post on instagram, and we need not feel bad in order to feel seen.
This phenomenon I’m seeing and feeling of wanting to be seen without being seen, on instagram or other social media.
Take this not as a need for another, better suited invention to beat the previous one, to have a new flavor to quench the newest thirst. But something away from the light of it all.
something that looks like staying home from the party, finding your people in the neighborhood, and smiling ear to ear with wine and the backyard lights and silly happiness, the glow of release and safety and what it is like to feel enough. to shine together and have only endless time and love to go.
