I thought I would share a couple more images from my upcoming article on finding lighting inspiration in mundane places. The idea is to go to a place like, say, your local grocery store, find some examples of good photography, see if we can decode how those images were shot and then recreate them in the studio. It was actually a lot of fun! You would be surprised at the wealth of lighting info you can find lying around the shelves of your local cosmetics counter! For this example we used Katy Perry, at least I think that's Katy Perry... maybe... anyway, some CoverGirl model. By examining the catchlights, highlights, and shadows we recreated the lighting used in the original image. To create the blue background we set up two speedlight flashes on white seamless paper, both with colored gels. I found #174 "Power Blue" to be an almost perfect match and while it's possible the original image was shot against blue paper or fabric the color-cast on her face suggests they used colored gels as well. Perhaps the very same gels I used! Anyway, it was a really fun little project and can teach you a lot about seeing and deciphering light. #pdxphotographer #fashionphotography #pdxmodel #mola #gamilight #photographyworkshop #infinitypointstudio @innazagariya @devynn_christina_verdos
