This is an AU where Freddie was never ill/survived his illness and he and Jim have recently celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary (also known as the tin anniversary.)

‘You should really take that thing off when you go to bed, you know.’ Jim teased, leaning on his elbow, his chin pressed into his hand. ‘I swear I could feel it pressing into my back last night.’

‘Tough tits.’ Replied Freddie, poking his tongue out at the other man. He held his arm up again, admiring the bracelet that slipped down his slim wrist. ‘I’m never taking it off. I’m taking it to the grave with me.’

It had been almost a week since the couple had celebrated their tenth anniversary. Naturally, Freddie had thrown a huge party for the occasion, inviting just about everybody they knew. As per tradition, he presented Jim with a number of ridiculous gag gifts – a cat shaped biscuit tin, a tiny figurine of the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz and a keyring that read “Happy Tin Years!” – before finally revealing his real present; a genuine leather Cartier wallet. When Jim opened it up, he saw the date of the night they first met had been engraved in gold letters inside.

When it was time for Freddie’s gift, the Irishman was apprehensive as always. He had spent weeks searching for something perfect for his husband, but even after a decade of being together, there was always this nagging doubt at the back of his mind that whatever he bought wasn’t good enough. He could feel his palms begin to sweat as Freddie fiddled with the wrapping paper, his long delicate fingers slowly pulling it apart until a little box fell out.

‘Tiffany & Co!’ The singer grinned, picking up the box eagerly. ‘I hope you haven’t been spoiling me, darling.’ He untied the bow and began pulling the lid off.

Jim could tell the other man was intrigued. Freddie didn’t really wear jewellery, save for his ring, and the Irishman was aware he had taken a big risk going for trinkets rather than the safer option of a fancy box or caviar bowl. He knew Freddie would appreciate his gift regardless of whether he liked it or not; he had only worn the leather jacket Jim gave him ten Christmases ago twice, but it was still preserved in his wardrobe as a sentimental reminder of their first seasonal holiday together. But this was different. Jim really wanted Freddie to like this one. Not only because it had cost him nearly three hundred bloody pounds but because of what it was supposed to represent.

Freddie opened the box, revealing a small bracelet made of sterling silver with an infinity knot at the centre. Freddie stared at it, fingertips gently tracing the metal, before he carefully took it out and held it up to examine in the light.

‘Jim…’ he said breathlessly. ‘Jim, it’s beautiful.’

He leaned over, took Jim’s face in his hands, and kissed him so passionately Peter Straker whistled at them from across the room. Freddie took the bracelet, slipped it onto his wrist, and hadn’t taken it off since.

‘I take it you like it then?’ Jim leaned down to press a kiss against Freddie’s bare shoulder, smiling when the other man turned and wound his arms around his neck, pulling the Irishman down on top of him.

‘It’s one of the most wonderful things you’ve ever given me, darling.’ Freddie murmured against Jim’s lips. ‘Second only to my wedding ring, of course.’

Any thought of getting up that morning was quickly dashed away as the pair exchanged soft, sleepy kisses, the only sounds to be heard being that of their steady breathing and the occasional jingle of the bracelet.

‘You’re my forever.’ Jim suddenly blurted out, so caught up in the moment that he let his mouth talk before his mind caught up. He immediately blushed and hid his face in Freddie’s shoulder. ‘Oh Christ, that’s the worst thing I’ve ever said.’

‘It’s true though.’ Freddie pressed a kiss to Jim’s flushed ear, absent-mindedly playing with the infinity symbol on his bracelet. ‘You and I, forever. I quite like that idea.’
