Yesterday, I was walking down Montague St and a young man came up to me and said, "Excuse me..." I take a quick glance at him and keep walking. He walks along side me and continues, "I don't want any money. I was just wondering if you could get me something to eat." I slow my pace a little and notice he's wearing a tattered shirt and there's a slight odor. He's very young, white, tall, super skinny. He goes on to explain that he hasn't eaten in 2 days. He aged out of foster care and has been sleeping on the street. So I ask, "What do you want?" He's dumbstruck. Looks around, unsure. Says he doesn't want to be greedy. Looks at me with a big question mark in his eyes. So I ask again. "What do you want?" He says he doesn't know, hesitates, hems and haws. Then finally decided to go to CVS on the corner. So we head in that direction. When we get there he asks again. "What can I get?" I tell him he can get whatever he wants. He walks to the snack aisle. Paces a little and asks again. "What can I get?" Again I remind him, "You can get whatever you want." After repeating it 5 or 6 more times, he finally selects a six pack of apple sauce and a box of granola bars. As we walk to the register he says he can get water for free at McDonald's. And talks about how he had been praying that he'd eat. He tells me that people think he's on drugs but he's not. He wound up in foster care because his mother was an addict. His gratitude was effusive. As I walked to my car and reflected on our exchange... It occurred to me that I had been looking in a mirror. There I was prepared to get him whatever he wanted to eat. Montague St is restaurant row. He could have had anything he had a taste for. And he made a puny small choice. In life we have access to infinite source though Spirit. And I have been choosing small. I saw myself standing in a store of opportunity with Spirit who is prepared to give me whatever I want. And I'm in there like. I'll just take a little. I don't want to be greedy. Well I'm declaring right now that I'm done with that way of being. I'm done with small puny choices. I'm ready to step with love and gratitude into the big beautiful life that is available to me. I ask you today... Are you being big? Are you living in the fullness of infinite source? Or are you choosing small?
