advice: complaining about your directory
So, something at your directory's got you upset. There's a typist who rubs you the wrong way, someone's constantly reblogging as links when they should be reblogging as text, the dash is too slow, someone's refusing to tag their triggering stuff- whatever it is, you've got a problem. Complaining about it publicly to the members will not fix it, no matter how right you are. You are not the admin, you don't make the calls. You're punishing the whole RP for something that's probably only the fault of a few people at most, and the people who actually take the complaint to heart are probably going to be the non-offending members, which creates an uncomfortable atmosphere for everyone.
Some things can and should be solved privately between two typists if at all possible- i.e. a para got out of hand and you need to get together and re-plot, a character is behaving strangely and you don't understand what's going on, a member is using the wrong tag for you so you miss their posts directed at you, a newbie typist accidentally godmodded your character, someone who doesn't know your triggers posted one without a warning before you could ask them not to. Stuff like that can usually be solved in a Skype chat or a couple of fanmails.
However, if you've got a problem with the way the RP is run, if a member seems to be harassing you or someone makes you uncomfortable, if you've approached a member privately about a problem and they refuse to acknowledge it- bring it to an admin. They're the ones who can affect change- or, in some cases, explain why no changes have been made. Maybe their action/explanation will make perfect sense to you and you can go on about your day. Or maybe it won't and you'll realize that directory is not for you. Either way, these things are generally not solved by posting OOC about how you hate something that most of the members have no control over. If someone's being intentionally malicious toward you or hostile toward the group, this will probably only encourage them to do it more.
Admins put tons of work into creating these great little communities, so rather than cause rifts in the communities by publicly airing out your grievances, go to an admin first. You can always change your mind later and post something publicly if you still really feel you should, but at least do your admin the courtesy of coming to them first. You could save you and your directory a whole lot of drama.
(Uness the drama is anon hate. In which case, just turn anon off. It's really not that hard.)
