Lots of sense in this US paper, for a change, we normally get the same old stuff from them due to some misguided loyalty to the UK, although the author of the piece is an English historian and educator. I especially like his thoughts that "a progressive English nation, on the model of the Scottish one, could emerge."
I have no desire to see England suffer in any way, I have friends and family there, they are our closest neighbour. The old school rhetoric that the more senior of the English population will die off as they do, as Edgerton says in this article, "The young people of England, like those in the rest of Britain, overwhelmingly supported remaining in the European Union. They also understand we need liberation from the practices of Westminster and Whitehall, not Brussels, and from the self-defeating rage of the old."
