Happy Black History Month!!! Not to be confused with Black Employment Month, which is not a thing. I wanted to celebrate this day with a piece that is quite personal. Indigo Crossing was created during the time when my eldest was getting ready to head off to University, it was a hard time letting go of my first pickney. Her name was inspired by the movie Daughters of the Dust by Julie Dash. She was originally named after the Igbo slaves held off the coast of Georgia during the abolition of slavery who were on the Indigo plantations, who had their arms permanently dyed Indigo and became the elders of the Gullah people. #blackhistory365 #blackhistorymonth #indigocrossing #apanakitemitayom #shopapanaki #textileart #abstractart #artistoninstagram #trinidadianartist #canadianartist #gullahpeople #Igbo (at Toronto, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8BwvI7g4ef/?igshid=urkd1b89czqt
