Indigi-mutuals, I highly recommend this book by Yásnaya Elena Aguilar Gil filled with reflections about being an indigenous person trying to keep their language alive. She also critiques the Mexican state's assimilationist linguistic education policy and lack of multilingual services provided by the Mexican state.
My library only has it in English, the original Spanish version is here:

Amiguix indígenas, les recomiendo este libro de Yásnaya Elena Aguilar Gil que incluye sus reflexiones como hablante de un idioma indígena (ajuuk) y como una activista tratando de conservar su lengua. También crítica al sistema educativa y la política del estado mexicano, esp en no proveer servicios de interpretación a los pueblos originarios que viven en el país.

“We must all see ourselves as part of this earth, not as an enemy from the outside who tries to impose his will on it. We, who know the meaning of the pipe, also know that, being a living part of this earth, we cannot harm any part of her without hurting ourselves.”

Just saw someone say they’d cook all the time if someone else could clean and it reminded me that, yeah, humans aren’t supposed to be doing everything by ourselves, living so individualistically and cut-off from the stability and shared labor that living in groups provides. We live around each other, not with each other, and that is the problem. We are all part of earth and we’ve forgotten that. Our purposes are found in one another. Everyone has a role, not a hierarchical one but an equal, lateral, one. We must follow indigenous teachings.
God, we need to be shaken awake from this mythology that everyone must be perfectly productive and capable in all things on their own. By themself. That’s death. That is un-community.
Living on your own and doing everything on your own is fucking hard.
We are families of voids, people only brought together in space and time but rarely, and only with permission, in love.
I am so interested to see how this story of man plays out. Because it isn’t anyone else’s story but a man’s.
