"Zombies have seized popular culture, from The Simpsons to an undead Pride and Prejudice. But what would the zombie apocalypse look like in Indian Country? That was a serious topic of conversation at the first Indigenous Comic Con last year, when two speakers, Johnnie Jae and Jackie Malstrom, offered this encouragement: Native Americans have already survived one apocalypse; those skills can surely scare the zombies away. Jae and Malstrom are the duo behind A Tribe Called Geek, an online community for Native people who dig things like science fiction, comics, and zombies. They bill themselves as âindiginerdsâ and say their site is âfor the geeks at the powwow.â Meet them and others when Indigenous Comic Con takes over Isleta Resort and Casino, November 10â12. Much like a regular comics conventionâpanel discussions, a big exhibit hall full of vendors, attendees dressed as their favorite charactersâthis one also includes people like Juwan Lakota. https://www.newmexico.org/nmmagazine/articles/post/zombie-powwow-go-see-do-november-2017/ #atribecalledgeek #indigenerds #indigenouscomiccon #icc2017
