Killian opened his eyes and looked up when he heard the voice. His side hurt, but he was guessing that they were giving him pain medicine. The room looked to be similar to the one he had been in before when he was in the hospital. It took a moment for his eyes to focus and see Neal standing next to his bed.
He wasn’t sure how to answer. Why had he jumped in front of the bullet? Because he cared about the man and he wasn’t about to see him hurt. “I hurt you in the past. . . . I won’t let you get hurt again,” he said quietly, his voice hoarse from not using it for a while. He wasn’t even sure how long he had been in the bed.
