          It is stupid, absolutely FOOLISH of him to believe out of everyone in their little group, V would be the most innocent of all. But alas, life has shown time and time again that Nero is an easily trusting person. One who’s more than eager to allow and accept someone’s offer of company when they’re finally winding down for once. Such opportunities do not pop up all that regularly for them, after all, especially in their line of work. 

          So, with that in mind, one can only imagine the SURPRISE that paints itself across Nero’s expression when V moves forward and pulls such a bold move. He can only watch as the handful of fries, THE VERY LAST ONES IN HIS MEAL, get swiped by heavily tattooed, yet elegant fingers. How the hell is he supposed to enjoy his burger now? FRIESLESS? Haunting.

Vergil watches V carefully. Even now, he cannot help but see him as...fragile. He will not say weak; even in their brief contact, Vergil’s learned better now to accept that his humanity is not a weakness. It was not something that spoiled his demonic heritage, nor did it make him a lesser being, but even with all that mental retraining, he cannot look upon V without feeling responsible.

This is twice now that his thoughtlessness and risky behavior has brought forth another being, both of them confounding him to no end. Nero is callous and resistant, but V seems? Almost compliant with his existence. No, that’s not right. And as Vergil tries to make sense of the other’s head, he realizes he simply cannot. He doesn’t know him like he thinks he should, he doesn’t feel the things he feels, and it dawns upon him that maybe that is why they were separated in the first place. 

He isn’t meant to know, because he isn’t V. And he never will be. The same is true the other way around, and V does not want to be Vergil. He does not want his pity, nor his long pained stares. He does not want Vergil to watch him like he is a puzzle unfinished. He simply is and he simply will be. And Vergil just has to accept that.

Dante gives V Vergil, a raise of his eyebrow and shrugs; “Forgive you for what?” He asks, as nonchalantly as he likes. “I never blamed you for any of it, I just didn’t want to lose you. You could straight up murder me and you wouldn’t need my forgiveness.” Dante says this as if it’s normal and something V should already know, and perhaps some part of him does. “If I held any ill will toward you, I wouldn’t be here now, laying my life on the line for you, again.”
