Vintage Indian Damchia Chest Console
Indian damchiya chest horse head designs, from the Indian region of Rajasthan or Gujarat. with primitive horse head knobs. The front is decorated with three rows of six square panels carved with movable leaves and flowers. A latched double door gives access to the spacious closet, to the left is a secret sliding panel enclosing two shelves. In the Rajasthan and Gujarat regions, these cabinets were used as hope chests for storing a bride's dowry and for storing clothing and other valuables after the wedding. Today they would be excellent sideboards for hallways, kitchens, etc.
