Day 1042
I had mentioned in my last Coral Island post that I had played Stardew Valley, and out of curiosity I had checked to see how long I had played that game. My play time was over 76 hours, which is oddly low considering I think I restarted that game at least once because I think I messed up badly somewhere.
Now, I organize my games by weird genre titles that only I understand, but I have put all my farming games into the same folder. Harvestella, which was the last farming game I played, had over 108 hours of play time. This makes sense as it was also a JRPG disguised as a farming game.
However, I have come to realize that I am over 120 hours into Coral Island and not yet consider myself done with the game. At first, I wanted to pin the blame on myself, or rather my settings for this. Part way through my game, I remembered I could slow down the in-game time, making my days on Coral Island longer. I had done that as it would allow me to look after my expanded farm without most of the in-game day being gone so I could do other things.
Since I was in the middle of automating a lot of my farm, I thought I would change the settings back after all the automation was done. However, I found I liked that extra time because it meant I could bounce around between several tasks that normally would be a full day endeavor for me.
This is why I am not going to pin the blame on my game settings as to the number of hours played.
Yes, my in-game days are longer, but I am doing far more tasks which would have been spread out over a number of days anyways. This probably means the game is far bigger than I had realized.
Now, this is not bigger than Stardew Valley, I know Stardew got a very large update a year or two back which I couldn’t be bothered to play. I’m also well aware that there’s a lot of post-game things even before that large update that I couldn’t really care about, which explains why the number of hours played isn’t as large as I would have thought it to be.
Meanwhile, I am still trying to max out my town’s rank, and I suspect I will not consider myself done until I have done that.
And seen all of the friend events…
Which requires me to max out friendship with everyone…
This might take a while.
