Incendies
Director:Â Denis Villeneuve
Cast: Lubna Azabal, Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin and Maxim Gaudette
Released:Â January 12, 2011
Here's just another foreign film that kept me thinking for days. Incendies, although slow paced at times, carefully reeled me in with both its melancholy tone and mysterious plot.Â
As twin brother (Maxim Gaudette) and sister (Mélissa Désormeaux-Poulin) search for both their father, who they previously thought to be dead, and an unknown brother, they are overcome with different mindsets as well as physical locations. There now deceased mother (Lubna Azabal) cannot aid them in their search, however her story is told through gripping flashbacks which cleverly strengthen her connection to the story. These flashbacks offer clues into the mysterious whereabouts and identities of the people the twins are searching for as well as create a buffer for the plot. The chilling end to this film, which although French gives off a Greek tragedy vibe, is worth the two hours it takes to be delivered.
Incendies, although lengthy, provides the unraveling of a story so dark and potent that it leaves an unshakable mark.
-A
Twins journey to the Middle East to discover their family history, and fulfill their mother's last wishes.
A promise is a scared thing.
One of the actually good surprising ending of recent years.
The movie actually add favor to the Radiohead song You and Whose Army?, which appeared several times throughout the movie.
