Art is about throwing emotions back and forth with the author, at least for me. You know why I love concerts in my city so much? Cause we do A LOT to let the artists know that we love what they are doing. The chants, the flashmobs, the sing-alongs, the jumping and dancing, and the artists see this and they have x10 energy boost on stage. Cause we exchange our energy during the whole ride. (they say it all the time on the interviews, it's easier for them to do concert when the crowd is giving them back their energy and love).
Comments and reblogs are the equivalent of chants and flashmobs and sing-alongs in the world of fanfiction. Yes we want this kind of interaction cause it boost our energy and mental levels. We have all the right to want it.
And we are not ashamed of saying it out loud.
And when someone says "I'd really love to comment but I'm afraid my comment is not meaningful enough" we encourage them to comment whatever is on their mind. The trail of emojis? Good enough for us. The "I loved this story!!!"? Great!!! We are happy for the slightest little comment, no matter how "thoughtful" it is.
Btw, I'm not saying that likes are not appreciated, I appreciate likes as much as the next person, but any writer and artists will tell you that comments and reblogs just hit different.
People say writers are guilt tripping the readers, but it's anons like this one, who's guilt tripping authors into not paying attention and into closing our eyes on our own feelings.
Mkay, I'm sorry for the rant, I just couldn't keep it inside anymore 😭
Thank you for sharing this rant with me ♡ I have almost nothing to add, you said it all.
The only thing I will add is that commenting is just polite. Someone spent hours writing a story for others to enjoy, built characters for readers to discover or reader inserts for them to lose themselves in their favorite universe. They put effort and time and energy and passion in it, you just read it, got something out of it, enjoyment or fulfilment in some way... why not say thank you?
A comment is a thank you. Thank you for keeping this character alive, for keeping this fandom active, for making readers dream and escape from reality for a fleeting moment.
