Late night League thoughts because even League lore hits me with its depth sometimes
In Ruination Viego is shown to be obsessive. Insanely obsessive over his wife. And she got nervous around him and had moments where she obviously had some thoughts about his behavior we weren’t privy to. I know they went back and made added stuff to the game lore that he was abusive (in Ruined King, I believe?) but I don’t fully see that.
She knew something about him. She didn’t trust whatever it was. I have a theory.
The test of Camavoran heirs to prove they were worthy to sit the throne was to face Sanctity. The blade would kill them if they were unworthy. Viego survived. But Sanctity is known by another name to the enemies of Camavor. Soulrender. It’s not a normal sword by any means. And only worthy kings can survive it. My theory: not every part of Viego did survive it.
What if Sanctity did something to his soul during that test, something he never recovered from? And the weight of his crown made it worse. A wound that festered, growing worse with every battle he fought to prove himself a worthy king. With every enemy he made in the name of power. It bled into his relationship with his wife. She noticed his behavior change and worsen, but she was unable to stop it. How do you fix a dying soul?
It makes sense in the grand scheme of Ruination. He was a scared teenager in the beginning, just wanting to be a worthy king. And at the end, he’d destroy the world to get his wife back.
