The Armory Show refers to the International Exhibition of Modern Art that opened on 17th February in 1913. The show became an important event in the history of American art introducing the experimental styles of European Avant Garde to shocked Americans who were more familiar with realistic painting. News reports and reviews were filled with accusations of quackery, insanity, immorality, and anarchy however the show served as a catalyst for American artists, who became more independent and created their own artistic language.
The exhibition was known for introducing movement such as Impressionism, Fauvism and Cubism and artists such as Marcel Duchamp, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso to an America audience.
