❝     did you have a nice trip   ,  gran ?     ❞    she  slowly  moved  from  the  cottage  steps   ,  arm  wrapping  around  the  older  witch’s  waist  to  support  her  slightly  inside.  her  grandmother  was  her  life   ,  she  had  never  been  ashamed  in  admitting  that   &   now  she  just  wanted  to  make  sure  she  was  alright.  who  would  have  thought   ?  a  villain  kid  that  cared  for  someone  other  than  themselves   ?  she  should  be  ashamed  of  herself.    ❝     i heard you almost burnt up all of camelot     ❞    

“ Dr Staple -- “ She offers a hand, the cuff of her sleeve hiding the inevitable ink that rests on her wrist. “ I’ve been expecting you. Please sit . . . I see no point in wasting any time hovering.  Can I offer you a drink? Water? Tea? “

          she is angry.     the rational part of her tells her she has no reason to be, that a job is a job and it was clearly something shelby needed, and you can’t be picky about some things. especially when you’re raising a baby daughter. another biting reminder about the humiliation and heartbreak she’d felt roughly a year and a half ago when the warm reunion she’d dreamed of and longed to have with her mother had gone so poorly. she knows that those fantasies had been just that: dreams, fantasies, nothing she could ever hold up to reality. but of course, that’s what she’d done. and just as such habits had before, it had gotten her heart broken. and now, shelby was working in the same place in which she had to spend nearly eight hours a day, five days a week, a looming reminder of that enormous mess and the stinging pain it had left her with. rachel knows there’s likely similar emotions about it all on shelby’s part, but she’s always been a bit selfish; particularly when she’s feeling especially hurt, she doesn’t always tend to see or be terribly sympathetic to similar things in others. 

          while an emotional verbal deluge is something she’s always been prone to releasing,     rachel doesn’t want to go even there with shelby. besides, she doesn’t need to hear it from her that she’s allowed to be angry. she’s already been angry, she’s been angry since she found out. she’s been furious, sometimes, livid. she’s been hurt, she’s felt like the victim of an act of brazen insensitivity. but at the end of the day, there’s nothing she can really do about it. plus, there’s something rewarding about remaining cordial and taking what she thought to be the high road. “you’re here to work, and that’s that,” rachel answers, pursing her lips. “clearly it has nothing to do with me. and it has nothing to do with … with whatever the two of us are.”
