Why I got sober.
This is in response to a question I got asked that was sent to me as a submission. -
Melissa asked: “What made you get sober and how much stuff we’re u on. For how long”
I got sober because I wasn’t good at dying. At the very end I came close to death once again. At this time I also got all the drugs I had stolen from me, my little bit of money, and basically everything I had since I was living out of a suitcase at the time which was stolen too. I came to the conclusion that I was going to go through withdrawal since I no longer had access to the variety of substances I was abusing (opiates, barbiturates, amphetamines, weed, liquor, coke, and tonsss of benzodiazepines) and was saved from dying once again, so I might as well reach out for help. I was abusing all of those substances or a mixture of those substances for a couple years, the most regular being benzos and the most damaging being opiates. I was taking anywhere from 3mg’s clonazepam to 30mg’s clonazepam or equivalent in other benzodiazepines a day, drinking regularly, and using opiates whenever I got the chance after doctors stopped prescribing me Fentanyl. So all in all my life was beyond unmanageable and I was constantly thinking I wasn’t going to be alive for more than a week or two. I realized I had two options, try dying again, or try to learn how to live.
