          danny  grew  up  with  jack  at  his  absolute  worst.  he  was  robbed  of  having  a  good,  loving,  safe  father  but  then  jack  was  also  robbed  of  being  that  father  too.  of  falling  into  paths  that  reminded  himself  of  his  awful,  abusive  father  and  the  fear  of  turning  into  what  he  hated  most.  this  is  what  addiction  does,  it  slowly  warps  and  festers  beneath,  tainting  every  part  of  jack’s  life.  his  relationships,  his  own  health,  and  future  prospects.  it’s  a  spiral,  at  the  end  of  the  day,  hard  pressed  to  stop  once  it  gets  going.  danny  never  knew  his  father  as  completely  happy,  or  healthy.  there  was  always  that  undercurrent,  that  wariness.  and  growing  up  afraid  of  his  father,  tainted  other  aspects.  alcoholism  isn’t  a  failing  of  one’s  resolve,  or  a  slight  against  their  character.  it’s  multi - faceted  and  complex,  layered  with  generational  abuse,  and  poor  adaptation  to  adult  life.  it’s  a  coping  mechanism,  one  that  daniel  takes  to  at  the  age  of  FOURTEEN  himself,  and  it  nearly  consumes  him  as  well.  it  doesn’t  make  them  bad  people,  no,  those  actions  underneath  the  influence  do,  if  they  hurt,  damage  those  they  love.
