Mk1 builds are incredibly interesting with its variants and dynamics, and this goes on a different path, without sacrificing certain key elements. Compared to other vintage Zonk reproductions, from a tonal angle, this has much higher gain, much greater output, a more scooped midrange, and more low end warmth. More benefits with the hybrid setup, it is also temperature stable. The filter acts like a hi-cut filter to tame or open up trebles, while the fuzz knob is generally more usable across the spectrum. Inside, there’s a trimmer controlling the bias to the germanium transistor - practically it seems to control the gating and hence, the nasal (and some midrange) qualities too when you roll back your guitar volume. The lowest possible setting where the signal only just peeks through for a heavy gate is my favourite. Zonk-ish tones are certainly still available, and it sags like the best of them.
