Hello mx. daydreams!! I’m a fellow fanfic writer (and fan of yours!!) and I’m considering opening commissions for my blog! Is there any advice that you would give beginner commission writers to make the process easier?? I really enjoy everything that you’ve written, especially since your approach to writing is so enticing and interesting to read! I hope you’re having a good day/night!!!!! ( ´ ▽ ` )
ah the young blood. i almost forgot there were, like, people out there who haven't also been been writing fanfic for a hundred million years. god i feel old.
concerning commissions specifically, definitely start with small batches and price yourself fairly. the stakes of being able to write well and consistently become a lot higher once you're accepting payment, so it's safer to start with a limited batch (3-5 fics was my go-to for a long time) that you know you'll be able to get through in a relatively timely manner. similarly, don't let being new to commissions stop you from charging what you think your time is worth. people will know what they're getting into when they come to you for a commission. don't undercharge just because you haven't reached your absolute literary pinnacle, yet.
from a more technical standpoint, i always found it helpful to use my blog as a kinda portfolio. staying relatively active, making sure your recent work is accessible, and keeping your content kinda focused helps with that. a surprising amount of comm work comes from people in inactive fandoms who don't necessarily follow you, so making sure people viewing your blog for the first time can immediately tell what you're about is really helpful. this is coming from a person who refused to make a masterlist for four consecutive years tho, so maybe it's not that important after all.
lmk if you have any specific questions <3 i love it when writers are compensated for their talent and i love talking about myself even more <3 <3
