Like a Moth to a Flame
Characters: Mitsuhide, Mitsunari, female-identifying self-insert MC Rating: Everyone Word count: 2.3k Warnings: None Recipient: @widzzicicles / @destinedatmidnight Author: @ohtomatotome A/N: I was lucky enough to be assigned to destinedatmidnight for Cryptic Cupid last year, as well. I wrote them a story about the budding partnership between Mitsuhide and Mitsunari. This is a continuation of that same theme. âââ Kazunaga inhaled from his pipe and blew a stream into the air above (Y/N)âs head, adding to the already dense cloud of smoke in the reception hall. She coughed for the umpteenth time and fought the temptation to roll her eyes at the daimyo sitting in front of them. With a look of worry, Mitsunari laid a hand on her back, leaned over, and whispered, âAre you unwell, Lady (Y/N)?â With a definite nod of her head, she looked at Mitsunari and then at Mitsuhide, who was leisurely sipping sake a few feet away. She was sure he had glanced at her each time the daimyo exhaled a plume of smoke in her direction, but the golden eyes showed no sign of concern at the moment. Mitsunari turned to the household attendant. âWould you be so kind as to show us to your courtyard where Lady (Y/N) can refresh herself with a bit of cool air?â He helped (Y/N) to her feet and they gave a small polite bow to Kazunaga before following a servant out. She led them through the halls and out to the inner garden. As he turned to leave, Mitsunari gave a little self-deprecating chuckle and pointed around him at the surrounding doorways, saying, âAh, I think I got turned aroundâŚwhich way do we follow to get back to the reception hall? I think it was that door, correct?â The servant quickly recovered her perplexion at his stupidity and shook her head politely. âNo, those are my lordâs offices on that side. You came in from the doors right behind you.â She gestured to the double shoji doors, then bowed and left them alone. (Y/N) sighed and ventured into the garden towards a large boulder to sit on. âWhat a rude man. Who blows smoke into anyoneâs face, let alone a dinner guest? Ugh. Iâve got a massive headache. Thanks for taking me out of there, Mitsunari.â She gave him a grateful smile. Mitsunari returned the soft smile and stepped behind her. âI believe I can help relieve the discomfort with some light temple massage, Lady (Y/N).â He reached up and placed the pads of his fingers against the sides of her head, applying just the right amount of pressure. She closed her eyes and visibly relaxed to a great degree, trusting herself completely to his care. A few seconds passed; Mitsunari looked all around them before whispering instructions in her ear. âIf this does not go as planned and we are caught here, you will need to get to a safe place as soon as possible. One of Lord Mitsuhideâs armed servants is stationed outside the manor gates in case that happens. He will escort you to an inn where his vassals are waiting to meet up with us tonight. Do you have any questions before Lord Mitsuhide finds us?â With a bigger pout than she realized, she sulked, âHrmph. What makes you so sure heâd care enough to come after us?â âââ Two supply trains hijacked. Five dead soldiers. A large amount of ammunition missing. An important shipment of flintlock rifles stolen. And one very disgruntled Oda lord. Mitsuhide had been trying to uncover the mystery of who was behind the thefts. The trail had led to the household of Kazunaga, a daimyo who had recently joined the Oda forces. When Mitsuhide delivered his findings at the last war council, Nobunaga ordered him to verify it but take no action yet: âPunishment will come directly from me. First I want you to confirm he is the culprit.â Masamune patted his katana and smiled hungrily, âJust point the way, and weâll handle him for you, Nobunaga. No need to get your hands dirty with this small fry.â Hideyoshi was ready to jump to his feet, âThat man has been stealing from my lord! Probably to use those very weapons against him. We need to get there now and make him pay for his thievery.â Mitsuhide cast a cool glance at the simmering Hideyoshi, âAnd this is why I need someone who doesnât rush into battle without a plan.â Mitsuhide surprised everyone by telling Mitsunari and (Y/N) to get ready and dress like successful merchants. âI can hardly show up by myself. What a paltry attempt at deception that would be. (Y/N) will be my wife; that will serve as a nice cover. Mitsunari is needed for his skills.â Ieyasu scoffed, âWhich skill is that? Spilling tea? Or getting lost?â Truth be told, Mitsuhide appreciated Mitsunariâs gifts more than he liked to admit. This excursion would be the fourth time heâd called upon the strategist to leave his shabby office and travel with him for an investigation. The man was reliable, calm, brilliant, and he had his uses. But he was frustratingly naive. âŚOr was he? Mitsuhide had spent more time with Mitsunari in the last four months than in the two years combined, and he was beginning to notice that Azuchiâs angel wasnât nearly as dopey as many believed. Posing as merchants of rare foreign imported goods, they had managed to obtain an invitation to dinner. Kazunaga had shown them adequate hospitality while they had been eating, but as they moved to the reception hall for smoking, sake, and sales talk, he slowly devolved into a rude host. Mitsuhide casually took a sip as the door slid shut behind (Y/N) and Mitsunari. The daimyo sneered at him, âYou look quite comfortable for a husband whose wife just left to have a moonlit stroll with another man. Are you a cuckold, or do you trust him that implicitly?â With fox-like cunning and speed, he latched onto that idea and turned it to his advantage. He suddenly gave a scorned grunt, âThen letâs get business squared away quickly so I can go reclaim whatâs mine.â They began to negotiate prices while Mitsuhide made his agitation shown as the minutes ticked by. âââ Mitsunari stopped rubbing (Y/N)âs temples before answering her question. âBecause this has been long enough for your husband to be worried that his wife is alone with another man. Isnât that right, my lord?â Mitsuhide stepped out from the shadows. âToo true. Woman, you know better than to wag your tail at someone else.â He deliberately stepped between them and put a possessive arm around (Y/N)âs shoulders. Under his breath he asked the other man one word, âWhere?â Mitsunari nervously sidestepped the couple and backed up onto the walkway that led to the Kazunagaâs private offices. âAh, donât you think you ought to treat your wife a little nicer than calling her âwomanâ?â He continued backing up, feeling for the door latch behind him. Mitsuhide growled in indignation. âWOMAN, you go back to the party. You donât want to see this.â He pressed a quick kiss to her temple before storming towards Mitsunari, just as the other man slipped into the room. Mitsuhide followed after him and slid the door shut. (Y/N) was momentarily stunned by the feeling Mitsuhideâs lips left on her skin. Even though she knew this was just play-acting, she couldnât help that her heart was beating wildly. Keeping in mind their warning that there could be servants or spies watching from anywhere, she paced the garden with a fretful demeanor before making her way back to the hallways, giving the warlords plenty of time to finish their search. âââ âI hope that was sufficient acting, Lord Mitsuhide. Iâve never had to use such a skill before. I learn so many new things when Iâm working with you.â A faint smile lifted the corners of Mitsunariâs lips as he searched drawers and crates for evidence of the stolen weapons and supplies. âEnough talking. Concentrate.â It was as much an order for Mitsunari as it was for himself. Mitsuhide was trying to forget how his arm had felt around (Y/N), and how her hair smelled. Did he subconsciously pick her temple to kiss because he wanted to erase the touch of Mitsunariâs hands on her skin? Had he really been jealous? He snorted lightly through his nose. A rustling sound of thick parchment snapped him out of this uncharacteristic line of questions. Mitsunari held the map up the light and put on his glasses. âThereâs no time for us to make a copy. Iâll memorize it now and redraw it later.â Mitsuhide looked over the manâs shoulder and saw it was barely a map, if you could even call it that. Whomever created it made the lines and markings as cryptic as possible. But if you knew what you were looking for, you could tell these were locations of stockpiles. Mitsuhide left him to focus while he dug through other piles as neatly and quietly as possible. When Mitsunari put the map down, five more documents were thrust in front of him. âMemorize these, too. As fast as you can.â Mitsunari nodded and tuned everything else out. As they were putting everything back where they found it, they heard (Y/N) say loudly from the courtyard, âOh, Iâm so glad youâve arrived! My husband and his business partner are fighting! Please put a stop to it!â Mitsuhide smirked and looked at Mitsunari, who had a pained look on his face as he softly asked, âLord Mitsuhide, do we really have toâŚ?â In answer, Mitsuhide grabbed the manâs collar with one hand and shot open the door with the other as he jeered loudly, âYou spend too much time with my wife, you imbecile.â He balled up his fist, ready to throw a punch. The silver-haired man gave a mirthless laugh â completely unlike him â as he struggled against Mitsuhideâs grasp. âYes, youâre right, I do. Enough time to see that she loves only you.â Mitsuhide had been set on giving a good stage combat sort of punch as a reply to Mitsunariâs comeback. But those were NOT the words he was expecting to hear. He hesitated for a moment in an unlikely display of shock. That split-second was all the strategist needed to grapple Mitsuhideâs arms behind him in a vice grip. âWhat â ?â was all Mitsuhide was able to say before Mitsunari squeezed down on the pressure points in the manâs elbows; sending sharp pains up and down his arms, and forcing him to grit his teeth in silence. âYou will treat Lady (Y/N) with respect and gentleness, and you will be so attentive that sheâll never want for more. You will be the man she deserves.â That was the last straw. Mitsuhide had had enough of this charade. He could see guards were coming into the courtyard. His calm voice held a steely edge to it, âOh, thatâs rich. The man who canât decipher emotions is telling me about love?â With great effort, he pulled out of Mitsunariâs hold and casually strode down the hall towards the guards, and waved his hand in a beckoning gesture to (Y/N) as he kept walking. In a honeyed, mocking tone that belied his own pinched feelings, he called to her, âCome, my dear wife. Iâm supposed to attend to you.â He reached the guards and raised an elegant eyebrow. âShow us the way out. Iâm sure weâve overstayed our magnanimous hostâs generous welcome.â (Y/N) cast a concerned glance towards Mitsunari, who followed at a safe distance, before she skipped to Mitsuhideâs side and took his arm. âââ After they reached the inn and (Y/N) headed to bed, the two warlords stayed up to debrief. Mitsuhide waited to speak until the other manâs brush had stopped recreating all the documents and maps from memory. He began to wave the papers to dry the ink, saying in a disinterested tone, âYou surprised me with your acting. That last bit was especially entertaining.â Mitsunari took off his glasses and wiped them. âI didnât say anything that wasnât true, my lord. I may not know what love is, but I do know that (Y/N) feels 10 times for you what she feels for the rest of us at Azuchi.â There wasnât a hint of guile in his tone or his face. He put his glasses in his pocket and stretched, yawning. For the second time that evening, Mitsuhide was shocked by the sincerity of the younger man. He noted grudgingly to himself that he was never caught by surprise so often as when he was on a mission with Mitsunari. He wondered if that was why he kept requesting his presence for investigations. Was he so jaded that he hoped for a bright glimpse of purity? So calculating that he craved a jolt of wonder? Is that why he was drawn to the chatelaine, too? Was he nothing more than the moth to their flames? Nonsense. He simply required Mitsunariâs steadfast honesty, and (Y/N) was an amusing diversion. Thatâs all there was to it. Dismissing these intruding thoughts, the white haired man mused, âThose holds you used on my arms were impressive. Iâve been meaning to look into the study of pressure points and was hoping to master them to use in other areas of my work. Tell me more.â Not batting an eye at the change in topics, Mitsunari began to explain, âWell, I know I canât overpower a lot of men. And I wonât always have my sword with me. So I started to study certain holds and ways to exert pressure to have the upper hand in close combat. I realized I needed to work on that after something you said to me during our last investigationâŚâ â ohtomatotome
Butter Me Up
Title: Butter Me Up
For: @demonkingnobunaga
From: @ikesenlemonadestandstories
Why? Why. Just, why? Shingen had been left alone to finish the dinner for all of twenty minutes and this what what you came back to? You had questions, so many questions but the first one was where had his pants gotten off to? The second is why had they even come off. An exasperated sigh fell from your lips as you braced your hand on the cool surface of the counter.
âDo I want to know?â you asked, squeezing your eyes shut as you pinched the bridge of your nose. Your friends were going to be over any minute.
âProbably not.â Shingen shrugged as he chuckled, stirring the mashed potatoes with his spatula again as he dropped the butter in.
There was a long pause. You figured he would either eventually tell you what had happened or you would stumble upon the mess that probably still needed to be cleaned up. One walk around the kitchen island and stumble upon it you did. âPlease tell me thatâs a butter stain?â You eyed him suspiciously, eyes drifting back and forth between him and the evident grease stain down the front of his khaki.
âIf that makes you feel better than yes, itâs a butter stain.â Shingen laughed as he flung the potatoes all over the kitchen.
You ducked just in time, listening to the splat of the mash against the wall. Grimacing as you stood up to grab a paper towel. âFor fuckâs sakes babe. Could you not?â You sighed, exasperated, as you cleaned the food off the back wall of the kitchen just in time to hear the doorbell ring. The two of you shared a look and Shingenâs lips upturned into a devilish smile as he slowly backed away from the stovetop and towards the door.
âHey! Shingen! Where do you think youâre going?â You moved quickly, grabbing the strings of his apron.
âDo we need wine? I should go grab some wine for our guests.â Shingen hummed, voice like honey as he pulled you along behind him, feet sliding on the hardwood floor of the hallway as he walked.
âNo! I need wine. You need to go put some pants on.â You whispered as you tugged a little harder on the apron, happy to dig your feet into the carpet of your living room. He was not going to open the door like this. Absolutely not. Nu-uh. No way.
âBut my goddess, life is so much more free without them.â Shingen waved his hand flippantly in the air as he looked over his shoulder at you, a challenge twinkling in his amber eyes.
âPants. On. Now.â Your tone growing more harsh as the doorbell rang again, this time twice, with more urgency. âTheyâre here. Please.â
Wheeling around, Shingen turned to face you dropping a kiss to your forehead, nose, and lips before sharing a wink and sauntering himself back in the direction of your bedroom. âYouâll make it up to me later Iâm sure.â was the last thing he said before you threw a slipper at him and opened the front door for your friends.
All The (Very Few) Stars in the Sky
By @destinedatmidnight For @agirlandanotome (no ratings, suitable for everyone)
Hello, hello! I hope youâll like this sweet modern fic with everyoneâs favourite time travelling ninja-astrophysicist, Sasuke! (ÂŹâĄ_âĄ)> ~ Enjoy <3
Readjusting to modern life wasnât that difficult when I had only been gone for three months, but for Sasuke who had arrived four years before I did, it had been difficult. Not just in the sense that he hadnât had ice cream for years, but all the ninja training, battles, war strategies, and all the other things one experiences as part of life in the Sengoku Era, had taken their toll.
Sasuke and I were both from this time, but we talked for the first time 500 years in the past. It was there that we became fast friends, courtesy of the one loose panel in my roomâs ceiling. It was because of Sasuke that the past didnât seem nearly as daunting as it would have been. It was because of Sasuke that I was able to adjust, have the occasional fun moments and just keep my sanity in general.
And now the situation was reversed.
Sasuke didnât have anyone to help him when he had arrived, and when he wasnât being chased by his own lord with a sword training, he had been searching for me. For four years he looked for me, and when he found me he did everything he could to make things easy for me.
It was hard for him to come back to the future after his ordeal. He didnât show it, but the flashy LED lights were just a bit too bright for his candle-adjusted eyes, the city a little too busy compared to what he was now used to. So I decided there and then, even if he hadnât said anything to me, that I would help him, however I could.
So in the two months since we had been back, we met often. Today was one such day. This time we were meeting somewhere after work, but when I got out of my building I saw Sasuke standing there instead. I think he looked sheepish, although his expression wasnât all too different, as I jogged up to him with a smile.
âIâm sorry,â he spoke before I got a chance to, but I shook my head lest he say anything else and began walking without direction.
âItâs fine Sasuke, Iâm glad to see you,â and it was the truth. With all the time we had spent together, Sasuke had become a dear friend, one that I treasured and found myself thanking the wormhole for frequently. It wouldnât be a lie to say that as time moved on I found my feelings for him getting stronger. There were some moments where I got the impression that he felt the same-
âMe too, I was very much looking forward to our meeting today. I decided to save you the trip and came to you directlyâŚâ
-times like this, but he never took it any further than a sweet remark here or there and I found myself wanting more with everyone.
I looked over at him. We were walking close to each other in the crowd but he had averted his eyes after his last comment, as if embarrassed. I smiled at him, âthank you,â I spoke sincerely, knowing that more words werenât needed. The slight curve of his lips showed he felt the same way.
It was always like this, for some reason it felt like Sasuke and I just understood each other. Yes, he was dear to me, and I couldnât help wondering if I was anything like that to him. I had tried to bring it up before, albeit very subtly, but no joy. âToday,â I thought to myself, âIâll ask him properly today.â
We continued walking, strolling into a remarkably less busy park, a few stars twinkling above. âThey were much brighter back then,â he remarked, following my gaze.
âTrue, but then again everything here is much better lit than anything back then, I mean, we can see the whole city clearly even at night.â
My words struck a chord with him; he slowed down to stop, staring at me. âYes⌠youâre right,â there, a gentle smile on his face. Stepping closer to me, he gazed intently into my eyes. âThank you, I donât think I say it enough, but I am grateful, for everything youâve done for me. Your words, your way of seeing things, they all help me.â
This time it was my turn to get embarrassed, âI havenât done that much, really, but Iâm glad to hear youâre happy with me.â
âHappy with me,â I had said the words, but was that the way he saw it too?
Sasuke nodded and carried on walking, his hand momentarily brushing against mine as he did. âI am, Iâm glad we became BFFs.â
I breathed a sigh of relief Finally paying attention to my surroundings, and not him, I realised that we were in a simple flower garden of sorts. âAny particular reason weâre here today, Sasuke?â
âWell,â he shrugged his shoulders slightly, ânot really, unless you count me thinking that you would like it here as a âparticular reason.ââ We had stopped again, and under the gentle lighting, surrounded by colourful petals, I finally started the conversation I had been wanting to have for a long time.
âSasuke, do you remember that warning you gave to me when I first got to the Sengoku era? About not falling in love with anyone?â
He immediately understood what I was getting at, looking at me with interest in his expression. Except there was something else there, flickering behind his calm.
âWell, I did.â I was trembling slightly, watching his face for any indication that he didnât want to hear what I was about to say. And for a moment I thought I saw it, the apprehension in his eyes. Except it wasnât one of disgust, but something else: fear, and maybe even jealousy? That alone was enough to spur me on.
âSasuke, since the beginning you had been there for me, right by my side supporting me and helping me with anything I needed.â I swallowed my own fear, speaking from my heart, âIâm really glad we became BFFs too Sasuke, but, Iâm afraid, for me at least, itâs more than that.â
I suddenly found that I couldnât carry on, biting my bottom lip. I needed to know if he was really ready to hear me. I searched his face for an answer but couldnât really find what I was looking for.
Then Sasuke was stepping closer to me, slowly taking my hand in his. Hope, adoration, excitement, all of them and more ran between our bodies. The look he was giving me, eyes wide and encouraging all gave me the courage I needed to continue.
âI⌠I love you, Sasuke. Actually, I have for a while now, I just wasnât sure if you felt the same wayâŚâ
Suddenly both of my hands were clasped, his warmth seeping into me, and my vision was suddenly filled with him, as he bought his forehead to connect with mine.
âMe too,â he whispered the words, breath coming out in a rush. âAll the stars in our sky couldnât hold a candle to you, your wonderful personality, your radiating beauty; you glow brighter than anything else.â
Smiling, our happiness combined and overflowed around us, I couldnât help but joke, âbut there are only a few stars in our sky now, Sasuke, most hidden because of the city lights. That isnât a lot of competition.â I was barely able to contain my bliss: he loved me back, really and truly.
He cupped my cheek with a hand, âand even with bright lights around us, you still shine through it all. You see, my eyes only see you, the probability of me ever looking elsewhere is lower than negligible.â
Unable to stop the tears, and wrapped my arms around him, the sounds of people living their own lives faded into the distance. âI never even realised-â I began, not knowing how to put my thoughts into words.
âFor so long,â he reassured me, âI canât remember when I started to feel the way I did, all I knew was that there was an increasing need to be around you, to see you, to touch and hold youâŚ
âI hope my words arenât bothering you,â his nervous expression and sudden worry made me laugh softly. âIt seems that the longer you try to contain something, the stronger it is when it's finally addressed.â
âTrust me, I know how you feel,â I couldnât resist reaching up to brush away the hair resting against his forehead. âIâm so happy you feel the same way, Sasuke.â
âMore than all the stars in the sky,â he murmured, holding me close. Time continued to move on everywhere else, but right in that moment it felt like it froze on us, as if even time itself wanted to keep this moment as an everlasting oneâŚ
I really hope you like this fic~ Simple but sweet? Thank you again @ikesencrypticcupid for this opportunity!

°You thought it would be a good idea to cut scrolls to make a modern era game. Uno
° fairly easy you thought, it wouldnât be too hard to explain and simple to make
° Well making an entire deck or cards by yourself certainly wasnât easy, but you pulled through, and finished just before Masamune arrived in your shared roomÂ
° after his âwelcome home kissâ you expressed your excitement about what you had prepared for him, telling him that we would love it
° he did. He certainly did.
°You sat across the table explaining to him that sadly for both of you, you canât sit next to each other for obvious reasons to you at least.
° So then you began explaining how the game works, the colors, the numbers, and the rules
° Oh boy he had a lot of questions. At some point, you got so angry with all of his questions you thought he was doing it on purpose
° Oh yes he was
° Seeing you so angry made him laugh so hard he hit the table, making you even angrier because he made the stack of the cards fall off.
° So after everything was set up for you to play you went at the opposite end of the table because while you were explaining very calmly (in the beginning at least) the rules he crept up to you now sitting next to you
° So let the uno game begin!!!
° Compared to you he had the perfect poker face
° Always surprising you. You donât know how he did it so you said 'Heh beginnerâs luck right?â when he won your first match. It was beginnerâs luck⌠Right?
° You hoped.
° You really did.
° But sadly for you, it really wasnât.
° You knew it was a game of luck, but you had been playing it since you were a child!!!
° How was it possible?
° Well, he would look at you with that smirk you knew too well before he threw his last card winning you, with you, on the other hand, having still five more.
° He had a 10 winning streak
°So what did you do? You just left the table the moment he did that 10th win laughing as he saw your anger and determination that just crumbled when he said it was his 10th win which meant that he won as you said 'the first to have 10 wins this roundâ positive that you couldnât lose in a game you had been playing for years
°So you went over to the pillow, screamed at it and then came back to see him laughing at you apologizing while, laughing ofc, as he got up saying he will cook you a meal.Â
° His food was amazing so now you were half happy that you were gonna eat the best food from the best man and cook in the world but also sad that you lost
° But after a lot of hugs, kisses and of course his amazing food you managed to forget it for now at leastÂ
