#IITS6 WITH WOODZY
IITS is all about shining the light on things we love, so we caught up with Woodzy after the launch of his new mixtape “Touchwood”, for a round of #IITS6. We ask a list of fun, insightful and random questions to bring you more insight into their lives.
1. If you could meet anyone in the world dead or alive who would it be and what would say to them?
“I'd love to meet Eminem. I'd love to have a chance to see how he is in a studio. See how he puts words together and be able to study what he does. After watching "The Art of Rap" I got a brief insight too it, but would love to see how he does everything first hand.”
2. What two celebrities would you pick to be your parents and why?
“This one's hard. I can't imagine having any celebrities as my parents to be honest. But I'd love to have Robbie Williams as an uncle (He just looks like your typical funny uncle) and I'd love to have someone like Labrinth as a brother. He seems like a very humble guy and he could make all my beats that way!”
3. Sum up your life in a song or a movie.
“The song I'd choose is "Don't Worry Be Happy" by Bob Marley. Even when you're going through the toughest of times, music can completely change your mood and outlook on a situation. This song does that for me, even though it's an upbeat and nice song I think it has such a powerful meaning to it.”
4. If you had to pick one superpower what would it be and why?
“A lot of people probably have this one as well, but mine would be to fly. The freedom you'd have would be amazing. Even though it's not a super power, I'd love to be able to sing as well. I can keep in tune but I'd love to be able to really sing.”
5. What makes your music unique from others?
“When I was growing up, I wasn't really brought up around Hip-Hop. Obviously I heard stuff on the radio like Eminem, Jay-Z and Kanye etc. But growing up I was a massive rock and punk fan. I always wanted to make music, I tried learning the guitar but it didn't work, I tried singing and that didn't work either. But I always wrote lyrics. It's something I've done from a very early age. It wasn't until around 5-6 years ago when I truly fell in love with Hip-Hop. Being able to research and listen back to Eminem’s early stuff, Biggie, 2pac and Nas etc. I think the fact I grew up listening to another styles of music has effected and inspired music. What I really want to do is somehow bring my love for rock and punk out and fuse it with my love for hip hop. On my latest project 'TouchWood' I've taken a few little steps into doing that, but over the next year or so I want to really broaden my sound and make the fusion between the two of them.”
6. Do you have a famous quote that inspires you or if not one of your own?
“I have two. My first one I got from Fusion and it has stuck with me ever since. "Forward is the motion, the path is negotiable" To me that means you're always moving forward and gaining experience, but it's up to you to make that experience count and making the best out of any situation (good or bad). The other one is "I aspire to inspire before I expire" I heard this quote once before and it has stuck with me ever since.”
