Blue, grey, pink?
Blue: What’s more important to you: characters or plot?
I know this sounds like a cop-out, but both? The way I write, they’re basically the same thing. I create characters to fit plots and I create plots to fit characters. I’m not really good at conceiving of one without the other. My ideas for characters are usually also plot ideas and vice versa.
I know a lot of people like to come up with OCs without necessarily having a story to fit them into, and I think that seems like a lot of fun, I’m just bad at thinking that way.
As a reader, I’d maybe weigh character a bit more heavily. But if a plot is strong enough it can sometimes carry a story even with mediocre characters, so it really just depends on the specific story, I guess.
Grey: What’s a common writing tip that you almost always follow?
I almost exclusively use “said” as a dialogue tag and only use less-common dialogue tags in rare circumstances when they really seem necessary.
Pink: Which of your characters would become your best friend?
I would love to be friends with Geilis but I feel like neither of us are the type to really actively pursue new friendships very often so we probably would just end up never hanging out.
I bet I’d be good friends with Eugene, since he’s outgoing enough to kickstart the friendship himself.
