This photo was taken when I was around 6 years old in Montessori School in Cleveland, Ohio. I was blessed to be in Mrs. Oliver's class and am happy to say that I am still close to her and her family. Throughout my life My parents strategically placed my sisters and I with teachers who didn't just teach us concepts but also mentored us taught us things about about life. My past teachers inspired me to become an educator taught me the importance exposure and mentoring. January is national mentor month. How will you make an impact? Walking through Philadelphia's Amtrak station this evening, I was reminded of God's grace and mercy. Most of the station was empty but there were still a handful of last minute travelers. My sister and I walked around to find a snack before our bus ride home and found that Wendy's was the only food restaurant open. That is when I looked around and really paid attention to the other people who populated the station. In the corners throughout the station there were those who didn't have a place to go for the holidays. Many were just looking for a dry place shelter them from the rain, a Christmas meal from Wendy's or nothing to eat at all. I realized in my rush I hadn't even seen or paid attention to this in need. The forgotten ones. During these times of wonderful celebrations of love and life and family, please take time to remember those less fortunate than you. Open your eyes and your hearts. Reach out a helping hand and give to your fellow sisters and brothers. If you do not have anything material to give, a smile and a simple acknowledgement of their humanity could be just what they need to keep going. Remember those who may be struggling mentally and physically, those with no family, those who have lost family, those who are no longer with us, those with no one to love them and those who the world has forgotten. Be kind to yourself and remember that your presence on this Earth is the Universe's greatest present.
