Toxic Besties who tried "love" but that went horribly but they're too stubborn to leave each other
I’m not sure what this is in response to but I think you guys just solved the problem of me not being able to decide what type of dynamic I want to write LOL and Slug as having
“Hey, have you been crying?”
for five word whump posts
Slug couldn’t sleep. It hurt. The sh^t LOL did to him hurt, it was hard to live with. He knew he’d figure it out eventually. He had to… that didn’t make it easy. He decided to go get himself a cup of water. As he got out of his cot in the barracks he noticed two things:
The first being that Boa’s snake was not in her cage, and the second being that the college kid was not in his bed.
“… should I look for him?” Slug sighed to himself, Snuggles was still sleeping peacefully… in the bear suit. The scientist didn’t think he’d ever seen the… whatever Snuggles was without it. Maybe it was attached? Well whatever the case, that wasn’t what was important right now. If Boa was wondering around at night, he could get hurt, and, albeit against his will, Slug seemed to be the designated responsible well adjusted adult for the group since LOL wasn’t willing to step up to that role.
He wandered around for a bit, unable to find the college student anywhere. Finally he decided just to get that water and go to bed. Boa was a smart kid. Slug was sure he was fine. As he approached the kitchen he heard… sobbing? He cracked open a door and peaked in, Boa was sitting on the floor, holding a bottle of… something. Slug didn’t think he was old enough to drink. But he knew that hadn’t stopped him at the aspiring chemist’s age. Monty was wrapped around his arm, seeming to be trying to console him. He opened the door all the way, pretending not to notice Boa as he covered his mouth to silence himself. The scientist poured himself a cup of water, taking a sip and then looking over at the other, pretending to be startled to see the other on the floor, “Oh goodness-Boa you scared me.” He paused, “.. have you been crying?”
“… n-“ A sniff, “no.” Boa wiped his eyes, upon closer inspection he seemed to be wearing a shower cap. Slug couldn’t imagine why, and it was too dark to see clearly.
“… Is that a shower cap?”
“… I’m dying my hair.” The other mumbled.
“What color?” Slug asked, getting out a second cup.
“… green.”
“That sounds interesting. I think it’ll suit you.” He replied, filling a cup with water and handing it to Boa, “When did you last eat?” Boa hesitantly set down the bottle to take the cup, and while Slug didn’t point it out he did quickly grab the bottle, inspecting the label and finding that not only was it alcohol, it was Slug’s. At least it didn’t seem like too much had been drank… He needed a better place to store his booze.
“… I don’t know.” Boa admitted quietly, seeming ashamed to be caught like this, sipping the water. Monty nuzzled her owner’s cheek, hissing to Boa. “… i don’t think I had dinner.” He added, looking away.
“I’ll make you something.”
“You don’t have to-“
“Nonsense, do you eat waffles?”
Boa hesitated before nodding, Slug got out the waffle maker, and a mixing bowl, along with the stuff to make waffle batter.
“… are we out of frozen waffles?”
“Sad people get fresh waffles, Boa.”
“… can you put chocolate in them please?”
“Of course.”
Before long the waffles were done, and since Boa had elected to eat on the floor, Slug was sat down next to him, both had plates of waffles. Boa had also asked for an orange, which Slug had peeled for him despite his insistence that he could do so himself.
“… so.” Slug sighed, placing down his plate on the floor, it was clean enough and the food wasn’t touching the ground, “Do you want to talk about it?”
“Hm..?” Boa glanced over at him.
“You don’t have to. But people don’t steal their coworker’s alcohol, dye their hair, and sob on the kitchen floor for no reason. Usually anyway. Sometimes being in college is just like that. Of course I shaved off my hair.”
“You weren’t always bald?”
“Side effect of the mutation.” Boa nodded, pausing for a few moments before speaking.
“Do you like having me around, Slug?”
“Of course I do, why wouldn’t I?” The scientist frowned.
“I mean-you don’t think I’m a freak, right?”
“Of course not.”
“Even though I talk to snakes?”
“I’ve seen stranger things, besides, as hard as I am on her Monty’s a lovely animal.” The serpent looked almost proud at Slug’s praise. “It’s not like it’s anything you can control, and even if you could it seems pretty silly to judge you over.”
“… I wish other people thought like that.” Boa sighed, “I moved here to try to find a place to fit in.” He muttered, staring at his plate, “But all I’m finding is more people who hate me before they even know me.”
“… You don’t deserve that. You’re a good person, Boa.” Slug frowned, while the younger of the two seemed a bit awkward Slug couldn’t imagine hating him, even with his unusual ability. “People judge what they don’t understand. It isn’t your fault.”
“I know that but-that doesn’t make it easier.”
“… I doubt it does. But it’s important to remember.” The scientist thought about how people stared at him in public, it didn’t bother him much, he wondered if Boa got similar stares. “If you believe you did something to justify the way people treat you, it’s easy to fall into a hole.”
“… Right.” The other sighed. That probably wasn’t what he wanted to hear. Slug wasn’t sure what he would want to hear.
“… I can’t promise you’ll find your people. I don’t know enough about any future, let alone someone else’s, to say that, but I’m here. And I don’t hate you, for what it’s worth. Even if the rest of the world seems too stupid to accept you, wherever I am you’ll have a place.” Boa looked up at him, almost seeming to be checking if he was lying, after a moment he sniffled again.
“Thank you…”
“Of course.” Slug smiled at him.
And a timer went off. Slug squinted towards where it was, getting up and shutting it off, “Don’t know what that was fo-“
“I need to rinse out the hair dye!” Boa jumped up, putting his plate on the stove and then standing still, seeming to regret moving so fast while tipsy, before unraveling Monty from his arm, “Can you hold her?”
“Well I guess I cou-oookay I’m holding a snake now-“ Slug watched Boa leave the room, taking off towards the shower, “… Well. I guess it’s just you and me for a few minutes, Monty.”
♡ Tommy and Boa?
Who is the most affectionate?
It depends really. Tommy is incredibly affectionate behind closed doors, but most of his past partners have wanted to keep things under wraps since. Well he’s a dangerous wanted criminal. And nobody wants Freedom Eagle knocking at their door asking where their boyfriend is. So he isn’t big on pda usually. Boa is sorta the ‘my affection is simply laying on you at any chance’ type of guy but he also loves to brag abt his boyfriend!
Who initiates the handholding?
Both of them really. When Tommy initiates it he likes to squeeze Boa’s hand a bit though.
Who worries more for the other?
That’s a hard call really. I’m going to say Boa, just because unlike Tommy’s concerns which are more based in past experiences that are unlikely to happen now, Boa’s worried could come true any day. LOL doesn’t like that he’s dating Tommy. They don’t really like Tommy period. Who’s to know what they’d do if they decided Tommy was too much of a problem?
Who is more likely to ask for help?
Boa. Tommy may not be how he was as a teen but he’s still definitely prideful.
Who is the one always losing the keys?
Tommy. Usually they’re in his pocket, but he ends up forgetting that and tearing the house apart looking for them.
Who leaves little love notes for the other?
Neither really. They’re not the note types, sometimes they leave each other grocery lists if that counts.
Who can’t sleep unless the other is there?
Tommy. When him and Boa broke up it took a while for him to get used to sleeping alone again.
Who is more likely to propose to the other?
Boa, he’d definitely find a way to have Monty involved in the proposal.
Who introduced the other to their family first?
Boa definitely. In any storyline where they end up together and happy, me and Vic both Headcanon Boa’s parents came over to visit their son and his family and there was this whole sitcom style attempt to hide their jobs so Boa’s parents didn’t find out their son was a wanted criminal with a family of other wanted criminals.
Who is more likely to play with the other’s hair?
Tommy. He thinks Boa’s hair is so cool. Boa doesn’t get it, it’s just dyed green that’s the only unique thing.
Who makes sure the other has meals/stays hydrated?
Both of them. They’ll check in on each other and make sure the other is properly fed and hydrated.
Who is more likely to stand up to anyone for the other?
Tommy carries two guns and lives to shoot people.
Who is the most likely to prepare a surprise for the other?
Tommy likes to surprise Boa with the most atrocious home decor he can find. Boa thinks it’s a little funny but won’t admit it.
Who makes the other pinky promise not to do certain things?
The only time they did a pinky promise was one time Tommy accidentally drank something Boa was working on, and while delirious and coming down from literal poison he made Boa pinky promise that he wouldn’t make him eat spaghetti. Boa has no clue why Tommy was so worried about spaghetti, and Tommy doesn’t remember it.
Who puts a blanket over the other when they fall asleep on the couch?
Either of them. They fall asleep on the couch all the time. Sometimes Ruin will walk into the living room while getting ready for school in the morning just to see they both passed out on the couch watching tv. She does put a blanket on them but she also finds a horror movie to put on the tv to mess with them.
