ida has never paid any mind to romance in general his whole life let alone feeling romantic attraction to anyone LET ALONE another guy, so it’s a given that he wouldn’t rlly know/understand that it’s “normal” for a man and woman to be tgt instead of two ppl of the same gender. that’s why it’s also a given that he didn’t understand why aoki was so insistent on hiding the fact that they were dating and why he doesn’t deal w the same internalized homophobia that aoki fought thruout the series. he even outwardly says that them dating isn’t smth they have to hide
he believes that aoki’s ashamed to date him specifically instead of aoki being internally ashamed of dating a guy in general bc ida hasn’t fully internalized that society doesn’t consider it normal. top that off w his innate inability to lie and u get why he came out to the rest of his vb team abt him and aoki effectively also outing aoki
aoki on the other hand has not only exclusively liked girls b4 ida (making him have the presumption that het ppl r the norm even while in love w ida), but he also experienced direct homophobia while being w ida, so it makes sense that he didn’t want to experience that again nor did he want ida to experience it. do i still think ida was a bit wrong for outing both him and aoki. yes but aoki also never properly expressed his fear and why he didn’t want ppl knowing abt him and ida, and ida is someone who genuinely would not have known why bc of his past experiences (or lack thereof in this case) so i think they were both at fault for it. but it’s ok bc they figured it out in the end. by talking to e/o. love

And this is why this is more than just a story about romantic love. It’s also about platonic love and how it is just as important.
Aoki was starving for support, desperate for validation of his feelings. Hashimoto was the first one to share her support for him, even after he called himself weird again and literally put himself inside of a trash can.
But Akkun could tell that something was off with his friend and because he cared so much, driven by how important Aoki is to him and how much he values their friendship, he had to get to the bottom of it. Even with all the detective shenanigans, Akkun found out what was wrong, how he had played a role in it and immediately approached Aoki not only to apologize to his friend but to share his sincere support and remind him that, no matter who he likes, Aoki is still the same Aoki.
And that’s exactly what Aoki needed to hear - from a friend who loves him and supports him - separate from who he has romantic feelings for.
Because without the platonic love from both Hashimoto and Akkun, Aoki wouldn’t feel confident enough to try again with Ida for a chance at something other than friendship.
