Who said “I love you” first:

Ai.

It was after practice. He was following behind, fists clenched, face scrunched up and he couldn’t handle it. Ai blurted it out suddenly, blushing all the way to his ears. Rin had to stop walking, then face him. And once Ai realized the weight of his words, he bursted into color.

But Rin found it amusing and endearing. He reassured Ai with a chaste kiss of his own before he said his own “I love you.”.

Who would have the other’s picture as their phone background:

Both.

Ai’s is a photo of Rin he took secretly. He was in his tank top and loose sweatpants, drinking a soda while he stares at some sort of nature thing, Ai doesn’t know. He took it because first of all, side profile, and also because he wanted to see Rin’s reaction once he heard the flash of the camera, turning to blush and grab for the phone (which he was unsuccessful in).

Rin’s is Ai in a sweater he owns. It’s sizes too big, and slides off his shoulder, and it has a shark in the middle, jaw hanging loose as if it’s about to bite. Ai covers his face with one of the puffy, large sleeves, and it’s the most damn cute thing he’s seen.

Who leaves notes written in fog on the bathroom mirror:

Ai.

They’re mostly compliments on Rin’s swimming, or tips on how to reach top form. Rin smiles at them every time, and shit is he blushing? He would quickly erase them before he scurries out of the bathroom, shirt backwards and pants just hanging on his waist. Ai would smirk.

Who buys the other cheesy gifts:

Rin.

He buys those bears that hold cards and writes the silliest, cheesiest pick-up lines in them, pulling off a shark grin every time he hands one to Ai. Despite the cringe level, Ai would still blush, dismiss Rin’s teasing about him actually enjoying it, then roll around his bed clutching the bear with a stupid smile on his face.

Who initiated the first kiss:

Both.

They were taking the bus home after a competition, sitting together. Everyone else is asleep after the exhaustion, but they’d be awake, playing a car game to pass time.

Ai would breath heavily, nails digging into the seat and Rin would ask if he’s okay. He’d look up, and somehow, Rin understands what he’s trying to imply, smiling before he ruffles Ai’s hair. They lean in at the same time, and share a kiss. Their teeth would clack together from laughing.

Who kisses the other awake in the morning:

Rin.

Because seeing Ai’s reaction is priceless. Ai sleeps soundly, peacefully, and he barely moves a muscle. It’s kind of boring, in Rin’s opinion, watching someone so still, so he’d lean in to kiss Ai. Ai would wake up with a start, and once he is, Rin would exhale his morning breath into his mouth.

He’d cough and wheeze until tears sting his eyes, and Rin makes sure to apologize halfheartedly.

Who starts tickle fights:

Rin.

Ai has the cutest laugh. It’s a mix between a squeal and a giggle (a squiggle he’d like to call it), so when he least expects it, Rin attacks from behind, tickling his sides until they hurt from too much laughing.

Rin has to shower him with kisses to make him stop ignoring him.

Who asks who if they can join the other in the shower:

Rin.

When Ai hears the humming of the Jaws theme song, he knows he’s out of luck (or lucked out, maybe?). Rin would throw the shower door open, fully naked with a shark grin and everywhere, to the tips of Ai’s hair will flare red.

“I saw you encircle a scenario like this in your porn mag.”

“RIN-SENPAI!”

Who surprises the other in the middle of the day at work with lunch:

Ai.

It’s mostly meals he’s bought in Seven-Eleven, but he buys those sets where you make candy (out of powder and water and stuff) and adds those as “dessert”. Rin always appreciates the effort, kissing his temple before he pops one of the candies into his mouth. Ai is a very dark shade of red.

Who was nervous and shy on the first date:

Both.

Ai was a sweaty mess, and Rin couldn’t say a sentence without stuttering halfway through.

Even after the advice they got from the rest of the swim team (and Haru and the others for Rin), they couldn’t seem to hold eye contact for more than a second before looking away. Seijuurou notices them on their date, and shakes his head, walking over to their table, wrenching their heads to look at each other before he jams their them forward for their lips to connect. It was a humiliating experience.

Who kills/takes out the spiders:

Neither.

They’re both deathly afraid of spiders, and immediately climb to the top bunk of their shared bed, screaming for one of the swim team members to come in and kill it.

Who loudly proclaims their love when they’re drunk:

Rin.

Ai prefers his juice more than alcohol, but Rin is the exact opposite. He slurs and sways when he’s drunk, but most importantly, he talks. He talks and talks and talks. He babbles about Ai, and how cute he is to Haru, arm slung over his shoulder while he looks clearly exasperated. Ai, though, looks smug, smile getting wider each time Rin compliments him.
