patience is a well learned & well worn muscle. & it’s something alphonse can pride himself on, but it’s also something he has learned has a time & place. in the absence of patiences emerges a brand of trust — which is all to say that alphonse’s acquired patience has a limit when it comes to his brother. & it’s not because edward has the sheer strength to push him to the brink . . . but because it is edward.
so. yeah.
yeah. that being said, it’s possible that alphonse could stand to be a little more patient now. but his spirit is restless because he’s been spending what feels like ( & what probably is ) both day & night, staring out the train car window because everything is still when night comes . . . & when books / research / paperwork are all packed away in the luggage car. of course, alphonse is starting to get used to nights. & he can sympathize with how much edward sleeps, but when edward manages to sleep through the night . . . & most of the day during the train ride ? alphonse feels that nag of irritation that comes entirely for the sake of wanting entertainment.
so when edward begins to hint at wakefulness, alphonse observes dryly, lightly, with a faux-cheerful bow of the head: ‘ puberty must really be something, huh ? ‘
