everyone around them is fucking tired (no they're not, they actually secretly love it.)

in reality, every time ilya calls him 'my husband' in public, a small part of him wants to pull him close and hold him tight against his chest but the majority of him wants to shove the man to the floor and ride him till they physically can't anymore.

shane thinks he's being subtle with his inner thoughts and facial expressions, but every time after the centaurs win a game and ilya goes on his trademarked "my husband is the best player in the world" rant in the locker room, it's almost like a cue for the whole team to disperse as quickly as they can.

He regrets it immediately as the top comments start rolling in. They are all either proposing an Eiffel tower (iykyk) with both of them, or wanting to fuck one of them. Ilya, true to his character, is going around specifically replying to each of the comments about Shane with “No. My husband. Get your own🖕🏻”. And to make things worse, Shane doesn't say anything but he is silently liking all of Ilya's stupid replies to people.

On the brighter side, the post now has 3.1 Million likes, becoming the most liked post in NHL history.

Svetlana took these pictures on Shane and Ilya's wedding day on her polaroid camera while Ilya was getting ready. She thinks she can almost see the glimpses of her Ilyushka, the carefree, naughty but a very kind boy she had become friends with in primary school. He is absolutely glowing, all the years of heartbreak and trauma finally begining to take a backseat in his life. It makes her cry a bit.

Shane receives these polaroids in a small envelope from her after their wedding ceremony.

He chuckles through his tears when he flips one of them to find a handwritten message.

“Fragile item, handle with care. (no, im not talking about the polaroids.)

Shane gets them laminated immediately. One, he files carefully along their original marriage certificate, and the other one with Sveta's message written on it takes residence in his wallet permanently.

Ilya doesn't find out about this for a very long time.

One random day when he goes to retrieve a receipt from Shane's wallet that shane himself had asked for, he opens the wallet to find his own face, smiling big at him.

Seeing that Ilya hasn't returned with the receipt for so long, Shane goes looking for him. He steps into their bedroom and finds Ilya sitting on their bed with his wallet open in one hand and— a polaroid in the other. He is sniffing into his elbow, stray tears rolling down his chin and onto his neck. Shane wordlessly walks upto his husband and engulfs him into a big hug. With Ilya's face pressed to his belly, he feels the tears soaking through his shirt. Neither of them speak anything, they just stay there swaying together in comfortable silence.

he can go months on the same brown rice, smoked salmon and fuckass ginger ale diet without a single ounce of frustration. his teammates have seen him watch and rewatch their practice tapes till 3 am and then wake up and go to the gym at 5 am day after day. nobody, absolutely NOBODY has the grit of shane hollander and that scares the fuck out of people.

but not Ilya. as much as he doesn't want to admit it, shane really is the best hockey player of all time, ilya doesn't even come close to him as far as strategic playing is concerned. and he respects the hell out of shane for that, but he's never intimidated by him.

for him shane is someone who likes to have a straw in his soft drinks because it keeps his mouth busy. someone who wears noise cancelling headphones to do laundry because he doesn't like the noise (Ilya has offered to do the laundry a million times now but shane says he prefers that his whites stay white and not turn pink, so—). he's someone who tries to do the best at whatever he does, but doesn't know how to take a genuine compliment on his hardwork.

he's also someone who likes to play connect the dots with ilya's moles on his torso and his back. he's someone who kisses ilya on his temple and holds him tight anytime things start to feel a little too heavy. someone who likes to have control over anything and everything in life that can be controlled, but trusts ilya with his own goddamn life. oh and he also bakes these stupid healthy oats and pumpkin seed cookies that Ilya loves but will never admit to it either.

like in this scene, the acting choices they made, so subtle but so realistic.

shane's hands and jaws shaking as he's freaking out about something he deems his nightmare, v/s ilya's casual hand scratch but attentive eyes because even though it isn't a very big deal to him, he knows it's really a crucial moment for shane.
