Eight Issues With Public Restrooms
The other day, I had to use one of the bathrooms at work, which is a public bathroom since I work at the recreation centers on campus. Â So, I have always had an issue with public restrooms, and when I was using the bathroom that day, all of these issues just hit me so I feel that these are something that need to be addressed. Â Here are my eight main issues that I have with public restrooms.
1. I know when people don’t wash their hands. Â
I know this a frequent thing among people for some reason, but if I don’t see them in the bathroom I can pretend that they do.  When I see them come out of the stall after dropping the tootsie roll I cannot turn my head the other way and pretend that they are a hygienic person.  You are a nasty human being and do not touch anything ever again.
2. The toilet paper is low quality. Â
The toilet paper should not get a hole through it when I just sit there and poke it. Â Has anyone ever heard of 2-ply? No? Just me? Ok then.
3. I don’t like the hand soap. Â
Something about the public bathroom hand soap makes me feel like I am not clean.  I don’t know if it is all the foamy stuff or what but I don’t like it.  This may not actually be a problem, but in my head it is.
4. The toilets flushing is too intense. Â
We are not erupting a volcano, people…. I do not appreciate getting splashed with liquid when I flush the toilet.  Stay calm and flush on.
5. (for men) Guys think they can stand by you at the urinal. Â
No…. Do not stand at the urinal directly next to me, especially if there is no divider.  If you do this, I strongly dislike you.  I thought we as the male population had an unspoken code to not do this.  Guess not.
6.  To go along with the previous one, I don’t like when people sit in the stall directly by me. Â
I don’t know if this is the same for girls, but I do not like this. If you are a guy, you are in the stall for a reason.  I don’t want to be taking care of business in the stall and have some guy right next to me. This is a no-no in my book.
7. Â It is awkward seeing someone that you know in a public restroom. Â
I haven’t quite decided if it is worse to see them and ignore them or see them and talk to them. Since this is yet to be decided, I will just say that I’d rather not see anyone that I know.
I do not appreciate walking into the bathroom and gagging immediately.  I understand that it is a bathroom and it is not supposed to smell like roses, but it doesn’t need to smell like there are just buckets of urine sitting around.  I don’t know if some people have some issues with their olfactory nerve, but I don’t and I can’t take it anymore.
In the end, if you gotta go, you gotta go.  I will use a public restroom, but that doesn’t mean I like it.  There are so many things that can be improved, and if we all come together I think we can all make the public restrooms a better place.
