IBVS Week, Day One: Sleeping
I was pressured by @jellyskull-heart to post this early, so here you go.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Isaac sat crosslegged on his bed, doodling in his sketchbook. It was pretty late, but it was a Friday, so Isaac could sleep in as late as he wanted come the next morning.
As Isaac picked up his phone, intending to check the time, it started ringing, playing the song from that one meme with all of those guys dancing around with coffins. Perfect timing, Isaac thought with a sigh. The freckled boy raised an eyebrow when he saw that the caller ID said “Edward Quinton”. Isaac thought that it was really strange that Edward was calling at such a late hour, yet he found himself hitting the green button to accept the call.
“Hello?” Isaac held the phone up to his ear with his shoulder.
“Hey, Isaac.” Edward was panting heavily, as if he were out of breath. Isaac wasn’t one hundred percent sure, but he swore that he heard rustling in the background. “Hey, just curious, where are you right now?”
“I’m in my bedroom at home,” Isaac replied slowly. “Ed, I swear if this is a setup to make a shitty meme reference, I-”
“Are your parents there?” Edward asked, which Isaac thought was a strange question for him to ask. Edward was on pretty good terms with Isaac’s parents, after all. In fact, his mom and dad liked him quite a bit.
“Uhh, no. They went out to a party for the night. How come?”
The call ended. Isaac dropped his phone onto the bed, scoffing at how rude Edward had been, hanging up without even saying another word. Just as the dirty blonde teen opened his mouth to make a comment to himself, there was a loud knocking at the door.
Isaac got up and went to answer the door, assuming that his parents were home. But to his surprise, when he opened the door, Edward was standing there, looking beaten up. He was holding a hand up to his nose, which was bleeding, and he was covered in cuts.
“Let me guess. You got in a fight with Nevin again, didn’t you?” Isaac sighed, shaking his head.
“Yeah,” Edward muttered, gritting his teeth, looking embarrassed. “Can I come in?”
Isaac nodded, leading him inside. “Do you just keep fighting him for fun, or what? He’s got super strength, you know. You lose every time, and yet you keep fighting him again and again.”
Edward didn’t say anything in response, sitting down on the couch. Isaac headed upstairs to the bathroom, returning with a first aid kit. He sat down next to Edward, opening up the kit and taking out some rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball. He dipped the cotton in the alcohol and started to clean Edward’s injuries.
Edward winced as he felt the sharp sting caused by the rubbing alcohol, squirming around a little.
“Ed, hold still, I’m trying to patch you up.” Isaac took one of Edward’s hands with his free hand and squeezed it gently, as if he was reassuring his boyfriend. Edward very hesitantly squeezed back. Their relationship was fairly new, and while Edward had been the first one to confess his feelings, he still was nervous about the idea of the two of them being a couple, one main reason being that he wasn’t sure how dating a guy worked, given that all of the relationships that he had had in the past had been with women.
It wasn’t the first time Isaac had to patch Edward up, so luckily he was done quickly. Edward rubbed his finger over one of the band-aids on his arm, smiling softly at Isaac. “Thanks.” “No problem,” Isaac replied, putting away the contents of the first-aid kit. “So, why’d you get in a fight with Nevin this time? What’d you say to piss him off?”
“Actually...I didn’t do anything this time,” Edward admitted, rubbing the back of his head. “He came up to me looking super pissed and started screaming at me. He said something about me corrupting Drew, I think? I would have asked him what he meant, but he wouldn’t let me get a single word in. Hell, I didn’t even get a chance to fight back.”
“Huh. Well, that’s weird, to say the least. You’re probably the last person to corrupt anybody, let alone Drew.”
“I know, right?” Edward nodded. “It was really confusing. In fact, after Nevin finally stormed off, I just stood there for a while, trying to process it.”
It was silent for a little while. Isaac put the kit on the table before twiddling his thumbs nervously, leaning against the wall.
“Do you mind if I stay the night?” Edward finally asked. “It’s kind of late, and I’ll never get home before my curfew.”
“Of course you can stay. It’s not like I’ve got anything better to do, anyways.” Isaac headed upstairs to his room, Edward following and shutting the door behind them. “Do you need anything to sleep in, or-”
“Nah, I’m good.” The school king shrugged off his jacket and hung it up on a chair, kicking his shoes off before flopping on Isaac’s bed. The shorter boy got into bed next to him, and Edward immediately scooted towards him, wrapping his muscular arms around his stomach and holding him close.
Isaac felt a tension that he didn’t know was there in the first place leave his body. He felt oddly safe with Edward holding him. He didn’t know why, but when Edward was here, things seemed almost okay.
Edward buried his face in Isaac’s dirty blonde hair and sniffed it deeply, nuzzling it softly. “I really like your hair.”
“You do?”
“Yeah!” Edward smiles, stroking a few strands of Isaac’s hair between his thumb and forefinger. “It’s so silky and soft, and it even smells like cinnamon.”
“Cinnamon…” Isaac repeated softly to himself. He didn’t say another word, neither did Edward, the both of them savoring the peace and quiet that they shared as they slowly fell asleep, cuddled next to each other.
