Preparing for success in the IBDP – beating stress!

Over many years, anecdotal evidence has appeared to suggest that the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is perceived by students as being in some ways, too challenging and rigorous, and that some students find it to be too demanding and stressful.
Is there a relationship between workload and stress? Do student stress levels increase over the course of the Diploma Programme? Is there a corresponding decrease in wellbeing? What impacts of workload-related stress are reported by students?
It should not be forgotten that thousands of students every year benefit from the DP. They gain from embarking upon an education that goes beyond traditional knowledge and understanding, with one that embodies character, values, attitudes and engagement with deeper learning. It is a world class preparation for further studies.
To what extent can students manage workload, whilst keeping stress under control and maintain wellbeing?
A number of groups of strategies or ideas can be very helpful, and students may wish to look into which suits them and their study styles – positive psychology, flow and mindfulness.
