Focal length Evaluation ;
In these images from ians class what you see is the difference between using 18mm and the 55mm lens.
The first image is used with a wide angle lens of 18mm.Using this wide angel lens of 18mm and getting close to your subjects face can give an distorted image which is shown in the first image.
The second image is used with a telephoto lens of 55mm *if not a full frame, times by 1.5 to get the true focal length*. Using standard lens of 55mm which gives distance from your subject can flatten the face and give more of a flattering image which is shown in the second image.
some of my still life stuff from ians class last wednesday. i found that playing around with the white balance changed the look of the picture, for example the photograph of the vinyl player has alot of noise and grain to it.
still life research
image 1: i really like the composition and symmetry of this photograph.
image 2: i find this photograph interesting because of the focal length which focuses on the spoons reflection and the rest is out of focus.
image 3: i like the set up of thjs photograph with the plectrums making a shape.
portraiture research
image 1: i find this image interesting because of its simplicity, its effective use of shadows and the black and white filter.
image 2: this photograph appealed to me because of it unique use of lighting and coloured gel, the use of shadows to frame the face and composition
image 3: i find this photograph successful because of the over blown light, circle of confusion and coloured gel used
image 4: i really find this photograph interesting because of the strong use of composition, the use of two faces fitiing together as on and the black and white filter used

Portrait Research
Greg Gorman is a celebrity and portrait photographer, most notable for his work during the 90’s.
I love how he captures the real mood of the celebrities, and how close up to the face he takes the photos. Capturing the light and shadows.
These are a few images that Greg Gorman has done, as you say he always sticks to black and white images, i feel that using the black and white images that it shows the true emotion of each and every one of the celebrities. He has captured and focused mainly on the eyes of each and every one of these photos.
I like how in the Johnny Depp photos he has used the character he does for one of the images, i believe that this is a brilliant idea because it shows the character perfectly and how he is completely amazing at what he does. Greg has captured Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow and as himself and i see it as a comparison to show that he has two stories.
