Armando Iannucci in the New York Times about his reaction to, well, everything.
I found this section quite telling.
And it’s why Mandel’s approach to Veep, where no elections have consequences (and so stealing an election is a minor sin all politicians commit), was such a betrayal of the original series.

This came across my Twitter feed recently in part of a review of The White House Plumbers - and it has piqued my curiosity.
On the one hand, given David Mandel’s utter lack of seriousness when writing about political issues, I really have no desire to see his take on Watergate.
On the other hand, I find myself curious about it, mostly because of how…not present it is in the cultural discourse at the moment. Given that critics still credit him with Veep’s success (for no clear reason), you would think a new show from him would be a Moment in the Zeitgeist - but I barely realised it had been released.
On my unexpected third hand, I find that little review fascinating in how it implicitly compares Iannucci and Mandel’s work, to the detriment of the latter. If there’s any truth to my “anxiety of influence” theory, that has to hurt. Especially as I think most everyone would agree, the Death of Stalin was a masterpiece (and in a just world, Steve Buscemi would at least have been nominated for an Oscar).
I guess, I am interested enough to want to hear how other people are reacting to the White House Plumbers, despite not wanting to watch it myself.
Also, dear everyone in the UK - the Thick of It is back on iPlayer!
