#OCIC to Launch 6th Volume of Multimedia E-Magazine iAM on March 19th

TORONTO, March 16, 2015 - The Ontario Council for International Cooperation (OCIC) will launch the sixth volume of its interactive, multimedia, e-magazine iAM – Ideas, Actions, Movements on March 19, 2015 at the Centre for Social Innovation. The theme for the upcoming volume will be #GlobalHealth.

“Global Health has long been a critical focus of international cooperation efforts, but we felt that this topic was timelier than ever,” says Zahra Baptiste, OCIC Communications Coordinator and Editor in Chief of iAM. “Last year’s Ebola outbreak, for example, exposed serious cracks in our international response system to health crises. We wanted to explore more than just crises however. We wanted to focus on the broader factors affecting global health, particularly societal factors, as well as how international cooperation efforts can bring about positive change in global health outcomes.”

The new volume of iAM includes nine multimedia pieces which explore topics such as indigenous medicine in the Amazon River Basin, youth mental health awareness in Malawi, and comprehensive cleft lip and palate care in Peru to name a few. #iAMvol6 will be showcased on a new, interactive, mobile friendly and social media friendly platform designed to keep conversations going.

“The goal of iAM is to increase awareness about and participation in global issues, particularly among youth and post-secondary students who will be the decision makers of tomorrow. We invite everyone to join the conversation,” says Ms. Baptiste.

The e-magazine will be launched at a special event on March 19, 2015 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Centre for Social Innovation, 215 Spadina Avenue. Guests are encouraged to bring their mobile devices to view the magazine, and will have a chance to network with leaders in the field of global health and international cooperation.
