Album Review: i'mdifficult我是機車少女 - 25
Taipei, Taiwan -- Last month, Taiwanese experimental pop group i’mdifficult我是機車少女 released their new record 25. Having listened to this record several times throughout the past month, it’s a record that I keep coming back to because every song is unique and showcases the raw talent in Taiwan.
The record goes through several genres. The electrifying synths on “所有的 No Love is Lost” mixed punchy and classical keys give the song a fervor of energy. On top of that, the rhythm section are on point from the bongos to the energetic guitars. And the song finishes with a coda of pure, sultry instrumentation that contrasts the bursting energy of the first section of the song.
The melancholy indie rock of “Half-full” and “Average” are the softer songs on 25 but they still hit a spot. While they may be the quiter songs on the record, the songwriting is still breathtaking and I find myself returning to these two songs in particular a lot.
The four-piece released “Sunburn” two months before 25 and it’s also a standout track on the record with its flair. From the lush instrumentation to the spunky bassline, i’mdifficult我是機車少女 shows the sleekness of their songwriting. The intro of this track has a mystic draw to it from its tight and minimal layers but the song quickly ramps up into its jammed out bliss.
