oh hi there o/ I’ve been thinking for a long time (not really) about how to decorate my bujo cover. If you like it, read on to see how I did it! This is my first “How To” post so bear with me lol
I was thinking about making a tutorial video but not enough hands haha… Maybe in the future, o: a shared studytube sounds cool. (msg me if interested.. maybe) If you do try this out, let me know your thoughts by tagging me or tagging with #etudeau Here’s a closeup of what it looks like:
Ingredients (jk materials):
Flowers (preferably smaller ones)
glue, any liquid glue will work
a notebook. I’m using muji’s dotted notebook but feel free to use whatever you like! (This will work on covers that are not waterproof/plastic however it will stain somewhat. I also recommend using plastic covers in case you mess up)
a couple textbooks (anything heavy) and some paper
ModgePodge 3-dimensional magic which you can get here for $8 CAD
some love, patience, and more love
Steps:
Prepare your flowers. Pick out a couple flower petals and press them by sandwiching it between two sheets of paper and putting a couple textbooks on top. Leave it for 3 or 4 days or until dry and crisp. Some flowers could take months to dry… The thinner the petals, the faster it’ll dry. Lucky you if you already have a stash of dried flowers! [read tips to see what types of flowers to use and alternative pressing techniques]
When flowers are ready to go, gently dab on a little glue to make it stay. you only need enough for it not to move! be gentle
Use ModgePodge (what a funny name) to seal it. Start at the edges and work inwards. You can use the tip or a toothpick to spread it out! Be careful not to overdo it. Do not shake before using bubbles are ugly. need there more to be said? If there are a couple bubbles using a tissue or a finger to get rid of it. Trying to pop it will not work =-=
Carefully put it in a drawer or any flat, covered space so that it can dry. Don’t leave it out or else dust or other particles could get in.
The label says it only needs 3 hours to dry but best to leave it overnight. You can tap it but don’t press on it until a couple days have passed otherwise you risk getting your fingerprint on… unless that’s what you’re going for?? And that’s all :>
Tips and Things:
What plants can I use? You can use anything but thinner plants work better. This is not limited to just flowers and petals, you can use leaves too! Blue and green colours tend to work better (I am not sure if this is 100% true but it does depend a lot on what species you use) Pinks turn brown apparently;;
The colours will fade. a lot. It will fade when you press it and It will fade when you put it in ModgePodge
When prepping your flowers, prep many! In case you don’t like how it pressed or turned out, you have backup
Alternative Pressing Techniques: Microwave Iron
If you mess up with the ModgePodge, don’t panic! [for plastic covers]
While it’s wet: You can either wipe it down with a dry paper towel first and get rid of things with a wet one or you can wait for it to dry and follow the step below:
If it’s dry [this is better!]: Use a toothpick to get it off. It is fairly easy. If there are tiny dried bits, use a ruler or something similar to scrape it off.
You may want to test it out on a scrap piece of paper first to see if you like how the flower turns out
If you have any more questions or are in a pinch do feel free to send me a message, I’ll try my best to help!
Anddd that’s it. I think I covered everything o: Hope you liked this and have fun!
