I Think I...
She spins and laughs as Morrisey’s voice Pours out of the speaker on my kitchen counter At first I thought I shouldn’t have let her choose the music But now her smile makes it all worth while I stand over the hot burners Stirring sauces and noodles Trying to impress her with my cooking skills Feeling like this is the most important dinner I’ll ever make Every spice has to be perfect Every taste must compliment the next As she sings along to the Smiths She’s the hardest distraction I’ve ever faced
Two glasses of dry red wine sit on the counter One barely touched, the other almost gone A cigarette burns slowly in a pewter ashtray At this point nothing more than tobacco scented insence It’s all but forgotten But she has that ability To make me forget about everything Everything but her, that is
She sighs loudly and leans against the counter And now those glasses match And I turn from the steam to flash fry a smile She grins with something I’ve never seen in her eyes Something that made me feel so alive
“I think I love you” And she stops everything The boil stops in it’s texture The steam stalls within the air Even the flame below stops flickering And I turn to her, wooden spoon in hand Only to drop it and stain the kitchen floor I pick her up, let the wine stay behind As I carry her to the couch with my lips on hers Tasting tastebuds, counting teeth Desperate kisses to match the words And clothes thrown around the living room She grins and i tell her we’ll find them later And in seconds are hands are suddenly explorers Going through every knook and crany we can find And our lips seem like magnets trapped Although neither one of us is pulling away We’ve got all night, but for now it seems we have but seconds to waste Racing through the bases Tonight we’ll just stay home
ANd now a cigarette’s lit Passed back in forth like it was a joint As we lay together, staring at the popcorn ceiling Smoke and body sweat fogging up the room and even my dinner on the burner burning is forgotten I turn and look at her
“I think I Love you too.”
